Location: Newton, MA

Job Title: Program Manager, High-Performance Building Courses

Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Full-time

Compensation: $75-85K annually, commensurate with experience

Location: Hybrid, Newton, MA; option to do 1-2 days/week remotely

The Studio for High-Performance Design and Construction (Studio HPDC) is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing sustainable, energy-efficient, and high-performance building practices through a combination of education, workforce development, and professional community-building for people invested in addressing climate change through our built environment. Our impact model focuses on developing new approaches to training, certification, and career pathways in high-performance building, with a vision of widely distributing learning and professional opportunities to make careers in sustainable building trades accessible at the scale needed to decarbonize our homes, schools, businesses, and communities.

Studio HPDC Might Be a Good Match If You

  • Are passionate about our mission and recognize its urgency. The need in our industry is now, not someday.

  • Understand the value of experiential learning. Hands-on, in person, no substitutes.

  • Want to help make this industry more "let's build together" and less "every firm for itself."

  • Bring the energy. High enthusiasm is kind of our thing. We love what we do, and it shows.

The Program Manager Role

The Program Manager will be deeply involved in the day-to-day planning and delivery of Studio HPDC's building course, High-Performance Building for Carpenters, which targets mid-career builders and carpenters in Eastern Massachusetts. This is our flagship course, central to our mission, and this role sits at the heart of making it happen.

Success in this role requires a unique combination of skills, including program management, data analysis, creativity, and the ability to keep a hands-on educational program running smoothly while staying true to our values.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Managing participant and facilitator data and logistics for each course

  • Preparing the training site, including tables and chairs, printed materials, projector and slides, mock-up assembly materials and tools, plans, food and beverages

  • Tracking course completion data

  • Capturing and analyzing feedback on the course, and participant learning outcomes, then summarizing it for internal and external audiences

In Addition, This Person Will

  • Support learners in obtaining tuition grants

  • Keep course materials current, in stock, and organized

  • Support marketing efforts using Studio HPDC's branding and marketing kit, including creating social media posts and brochures, and using social media to identify new builder relationships

Over Time You Might

  • Organize and deliver facilitator preparation and debrief sessions, and orientation for guest professionals

  • Manage the pipeline of course participant leads and relationships to encourage new and repeat enrollment

  • Create materials that showcase Studio HPDC's courses and impact for participants, business owners, sponsors, and volunteers

  • Support grant writing and fundraising campaigns related to the course and its future expansion

  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and community outreach activities

  • Participate in, and contribute to, building science community discussions

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in adult learning in a program management or similar role, ideally in sustainable building, energy efficiency, or environmental sustainability.

  • A track record of managing projects to successful completion: building work plans and delivering complex activities on a timeline.

  • Comfort operating in a small, growing organization where systems and processes are being built as we deliver the work.

  • Ability and genuine appreciation for working with diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds in social justice neighborhoods

  • Skilled at using Google Suite required. Use of Canva, Squarespace, and social media platforms is a plus.

It Would Be Pretty Amazing If You Had

  • Familiarity or some direct experience with high-performance building practices, including energy efficiency, health and human safety, sustainable materials, and green building certifications.
