University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks a Program Manager for the Mobile Unit in the School of Public Health. You will administratively manage a remote/mobile program, develop objectives, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders while guiding data activities to support evaluation and implementation.

The role requires independent judgment, willingness to travel extensively, and oversight of staff and contractors within a Biosafety Level II mobile lab environment.

Qualifications

PROGRAM MANAGER-MOBILE UNIT-SPH The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

General Responsibilities: To administratively manage a remote/ mobile program within the School of Public Health. Participates in the development of program objectives and is responsible for achieving objectives within defined parameters set by University and/or department policies and procedures or technical principles. To establish and follow program objectives, maintain policies and procedures, serve as the liaison between the program and internal/external stakeholders. Requires the use of independent judgment to determine the best approach to accomplish objectives established in the program plan. Must be willing to travel for extended periods.

  1. Leads and manages the ongoing development and maintenance of the program. Manages all data-related activities to support the program's evaluation and implementation according to an established project plan.
  2. Develops protocols and procedures to standardize all data collection, safety monitoring and reporting efforts related to the program and makes recommendations on changes and objectives.
  3. Manages and leads all quality assurance and data/project reporting functions of the laboratory team. Directs and leads the activities of team members to support the successful implementation of the specific activities.
  4. Develops and manages timelines to ensure compliance requirements and recommendations throughout the funded periods for each project. It includes adherence to all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and UAB regulations concerning the management of a Biosafety Level (BSL) II mobile laboratory.
  5. Operates instruments (mechanical, optical, photometric, automated, etc.) according to established tests and quality control protocols. Performs and documents routine function checks and calibrations on instruments as required to assure proper operation before and during the performance of tests.
  6. Performs and documents preventive maintenance on instruments and equipment as specified by supervisor and instrument protocols. Tests and documents quality control checks on reagents, instruments and procedures.
  7. Monitors supplies, including dating and storing new reagents as received. Observes expiration dates, checks new reagents before use and maintaining reagent log and control systems, temperature logs and maintains all biohazard shipping supplies and logs.
  8. Trains and supervises part-time employees, Americorp staff, independent contractors, students or interns.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Pay Range: $50,050 – $81,330

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Three (3) years of phlebotomy experience preferred. Paramedical examiner experience is preferred.

Preferences: A degree in Public Health or related.

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations: Must undergo training and certification from UAB Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Biosafety Courses regarding the safe management, handling, disposing, and shipping of blood and body fluids within two (2) weeks of hire.

  • Will work for the RURAL study in Biostatistics which is conducting a study at various locations across the Southeast.
  • Requires that the employee travel more than 75% of their schedule.
  • Venipuncture and blood sample processing Administration of ECG, Ankle brachial index and spirometry.
  • Ability to use email, Zoom and other Windows, Apple and Cloud based technologies.
  • Assistance with survey administration.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work cohesively in a close nit team environment.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds of weight.
  • Willingness to travel more than 75% of the position.
  • Partial oversight of part-time staff, AmeriCorps Vista staff, students and intern.
  • Very good organization skills.
