Job summary

The State of South Carolina's Workers’ Compensation Commission seeks a qualified professional to regulate and maintain self-insured employers, political subdivisions, and self-insured funds. Under limited supervision, you will analyze self-insured insurance applications and report monthly on financial feasibility for the Full Commission.

You will recommend program improvements and regulatory amendments, conduct self-insured fund analysis and audits, and approve by-laws, trust and indemnity

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
• Critical thinking skills with knowledge of SC Workers’ Compensation laws and regulations.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn the Workers’ Compensation technology system.
• Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion.
• Willing to travel.

Job description

Summary

• Under limited supervision, responsible for the regulation and maintenance of self-insured employers, political subdivisions, and self-insured funds.
• Conducts analysis of all self-insured insurance applications, reporting monthly on each with special emphasis on financial feasibility at the Full Commission Business Meeting.
• Makes recommendations for program improvement and regulation amendments.
• Conducts self-insured fund analysis.
• Approves by-laws, trust agreements, indemnity agreements, reserves, and investments for self-insured funds.
• Conducts self-insured in-house and field audits.
• Adjusts each self-insurer’s surety requirements as needed.
• Assures the payment of claims in the event of the bankruptcy of a self-insurer or former self-insurer using the surety they provided to the Commission.
• Collects and monitors timely payment of all self-insured taxes.
• Monitor and approve any changes to a self-insurer's workers’ compensation program, including dividend payments, surety changes, excess retention, and rate changes.

Qualifications

J.D. and current BAR member of Soth Carolina and/or Graduate level degree in Business, Economics, or similar
