Job description

Clinical Nurse Scholar Program: The goal of the project is to increase nurse retention rates by providing clinical nurse scholars to work alongside new and novice nurses, international educated nurses, or nurses new to continuing and home care. By leveraging the expertise and guidance of clinical nurse scholars, this project seeks to enhance the confidence, knowledge, and skills of nurses new to continuing care environments.

Reporting to and in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Program Manager (PM) will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Clinical Nurse Scholar Program. The PM will be responsible for setting and executing the strategic and operational priorities for the program, leading work with provincial partners to develop the program in Alberta, and ensuring effective deployment of resources, supporting change management, and fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement.

The Program Manager is responsible for:

  1. Managing the full project lifecycle including initial planning, scoping, design, implementation, and evaluation.
  2. Directing the development of mentor training materials, ensuring alignment with current evidence-based practice and regulatory requirements.
  3. Facilitating internal planning and stakeholder consultation in alignment with the Clinical Nurse Scholar Program plan.
  4. Developing and maintaining partnerships with continuing care and home care stakeholders.
  5. Participating in relevant committee work related to the program.
  6. Leading team meetings and communities of practice in collaboration with continuing care partners.
  7. Ensuring data collection for evaluation, documenting, and reporting project status against objectives, milestones, budgets, and resources.
  8. Coordinating program audits and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
  9. Communicating effectively with the CEO, team members, and stakeholders to ensure program success.
  10. Assuming responsibility for other initiatives and duties as assigned.
  11. Promoting a positive work culture that fosters fun and productivity, aiming for the success of the AAN.
  12. Serving as an ambassador for the AAN and its members.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A baccalaureate degree in nursing; a master’s degree in nursing or related field is preferred.
  • An active nursing license with an Alberta Regulator and AAN membership.
  • Leadership experience in Continuing Care environments, including Home Care and long-term care homes.
  • Five to ten years of leadership, management, or project management experience with proven skills in leading projects, people, and partners.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivated, detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
