Job summary

The Day Camp Assistant Director assists the Director in the daily operations at one assigned day camp site. This role supports planning and implementing activities and supervises staff to ensure safe, engaging programs.

Candidates must be at least 18, CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain within two weeks), and complete bloodborne pathogen training. Strong communication and public relations skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• CPR and First Aid certification (if not, willing to be certified through the Park District within two weeks of hire). Certification must be from an accredited agency.
• Attend Champaign Park District bloodborne pathogen training within two weeks of hire.
• Ability to plan and lead recreational activities for children at assigned age level.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing the day camp program and activities.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate day camp leaders and day camp volunteers.
• Maintain good public relations with participants, parents, other staff members, and general public.
• Maintain accurate budget of all day camp expenses.
• Responsible for the purchase, maintenance and safe and proper use of program supplies.
• Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants
• Responsible for maintaing an open line of communication with the Program Supervisor regarding all situations concerning the program, participants, and staff.
• Communicate effectively with staff, participants, and parents.
• Maintain records of program operations including participant files, incident/accident reports, attendance and sign-out sheets.
• Responsible for parent newsletters, weekly schedules, payroll, required reports, and requests.

• The Day Camp Assistant Director is responsible for safe and well-organized programs.
• The Day Camp Assistant Director must be able to respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the Champaign Park District.

• The Day Camp Assistant Director may need to respond quickly and accurately.
• Must be able to be physically active to lead activities and field trips.

Environmental Considerations

• May be exposed to all weather conditions.
