The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is the lead agency entrusted by the people of Georgia to protect lives and promote healthy lifestyles in communities throughout the state. The Department of Public Health Injury Prevention Program received a grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The overall purpose of the 55+ driver safety program is to: Reduce the burden of motor vehicle injury for Georgian’s 55+ by promoting safe driving practices, improving roadway environments, encouraging healthy behaviors on and off Georgia roadways, and informing the professionals that serve this population of best practices for this vulnerable population.
The program consultant is also responsible for convening and leading the Georgia Older Driver Task Team, as part of the Governor’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP). As the Task Team leader for the Older Driver Task Team, the candidate will be the point of contact for the Task Team and coordinate all task team activities, including collaborating with group members to implement strategies, plan meetings, and respond to requests from the SHSP Leadership Team. The candidate will maintain professional knowledge of current trends, developments, and guideline changes in the field of older driver safety and mobility/transportation by reading appropriate journals, literature, and other print and media resources. The candidate will also attend and participate in related seminars, conferences, and training courses.
The DPH Commissioner and agency leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being. The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.
