Job summary

CITY OF ROCHESTER NH seeks a dedicated recreation leader to plan, coordinate, and lead activities for patrons at Rochester Recreation & Arena facilities. You will supervise groups, enforce rules, and maintain safety across indoor/outdoor settings.

The role requires 18+ years old, with experience in leading groups and activities, plus CPR/First Aid certifications or ability to obtain them. Strong communication and teamwork are essential to engage diverse participants effectively.

Statement of Duties

Performs planning, coordinating, and leading programs/activities for patrons at any Rochester Recreation & Arena facility.

Leads groups in organized activities for specific programs/activities that require advanced instructor knowledge and certifications/training.

Works to anticipate, meet and exceed customer service expectations.

Represents the city in a positive and professional manner.

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, Recreation Supervisor, Facilities & Operations Supervisor or Marketing Program Coordinator.

Job Environment

Work is performed inside or outside, under varying weather conditions. Noise level may be loud at times. May be exposed to chemical fumes and/or toxic substances, mechanical or electrical hazards, wet or slick surfaces, vomit, fecal matter, bloodborne pathogens and/or infectious diseases.

Work is moderately challenging in planning and leading groups through a series of activities.

Makes regular contact with municipal employees and the public. Contact is by telephone and in person.

Errors in application of assigned duties could result in adverse public relations, negative impact on customers, mismanagement of funds and personnel, safety hazards and could have legal or financial repercussions for the City.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for implementing activities for specific groups of children, adults and seniors.

• Responsible for enforcing rules and regulations.
• Communicates regularly with Recreation & Arena staff by email, phone and/or in person.
• Communicates with patrons, providing updates where required and answering questions about programming.
• Administers first aid, CPR/AED, when necessary.
• Completes incident reports as necessary.
• Responsible for set up and cleanup of the program area.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Previous experience leading groups and activities

Special Requirements

• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification OR the ability to obtain certifications
• Current certifications in a specific program field (Yoga, Fitness Instructor, etc.) OR the ability to obtain certifications
