Job summary

Southland Industries in Carrollton, TX seeks a Program Engineering Manager to guide design and engineering on hyperscale data center projects. You will act as design expert, ensure engineering standards, and collaborate with Associate Principal Engineer to align client requirements with project delivery.

You will lead a small engineering team, manage staffing, mentoring, and performance, and participate in design reviews, site inspections, and cross-disciplinary coordination to ensure on-time,

Qualifications

• PE license required.
• 12+ years of relevant experience including minimum 5 years in people management.
• Expert knowledge of design engineering for HVAC, plumbing, and related systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with all levels of employees, clients, and contractors.
• Proven ability to lead an engineering group and deliver results.
• Strong public speaking ability and solid computer skills (CAD, MS Office).

Responsibilities

• Provide design and engineering guidance across projects and ensure design standards are maintained.
• Attend project meetings as design expert and support cross-disciplinary coordination.

Job description

Southland’s Hyperscale Data Center Program team partners with our division teams to support delivery for hyperscale data center owners. The team translates each client’s expectations, technical standards, and operating programs into practical guidance that helps our teams plan and execute their scope of work consistently.

The Program Engineering Manager serves as an internal consulting partner to the Associate Principal Engineer and their team, providing specialized expertise and client-specific guidance throughout planning and execution. Together, they align approaches with client requirements, anticipate and resolve challenges, and apply lessons learned across projects. The division counterpart retains responsibility for execution within their scope, while the program role supports alignment, consistency, and successful delivery across the client program.

This role is responsible for providing design and engineering guidance on projects. In addition, this role attends meetings as the design expert and ensures engineering standards are maintained and adhered to.

• Provides design and engineering support to other departments as needed. Partners with team to ensure engineering standards are maintained and followed. Stays current on industry trends and issues.
• Manages conceptual design for specific projects. Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating. Performs complex calculations for projects, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, etc., depending on discipline — HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, fire protection, etc.
• Performs site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolves design issues during construction phase.
• Attends project team meetings as design expert.
• Responsible for successful achievement of project goals and objectives.
• Manages a smaller group of engineers, including staffing, training, coaching and performance management.

Qualifications

• PE license required
• Minimum 12 years’ relevant experience, including minimum 5 years’ people management
• Expert knowledge of applicable systems design, such as HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as all design engineering aspects
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communication with all levels of employees, clients and general contractors
• Proven ability to lead an engineering group
• Strong public speaking ability
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, such as Excel
