Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or education-related field is required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • ARDMS certification in abdomen and OB/GYN is required or desirable.
  • Two years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer in professional sonography.
  • Two years’ experience as a clinical instructor, preceptor, or educator in an accredited DMS program.
  • Minimum of one year in an administrative, supervisory, or program leadership role.
  • Two years’ experience in curriculum design, program evaluation, and student advising.
  • College-level teaching experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAAHEP/JRCDMS standards and accreditation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and administrative leadership for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
  • Lead strategic planning, assessment, and accreditation processes.
  • Supervise and evaluate program faculty, adjuncts, and staff.
  • Maintain accurate student records and oversee advising, progression, and retention initiatives.
  • Serve as liaison between the institution, accrediting bodies, and clinical affiliates.
  • Conduct regular program and curriculum reviews, implementing updates as needed.
  • Manage program operations including scheduling, budgeting, faculty recruitment and evaluation, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with clinical partners to secure, evaluate, and sustain clinical education placements and communicate with clinical coordinators.
  • Foster equity and inclusion in all aspects of the program.

Job Description

The Program Director for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) isresponsible for the overall leadership, administration, continuousimprovement, and accreditation compliance of the program. Thisposition ensures excellence in curriculum delivery, faculty andstudent support, and clinical education partnerships. The Directorprovides vision and direction for program growth, fosters strongrelationships with healthcare partners, and ensures the programmeets the standards of the Commission on Accreditation of AlliedHealth Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Joint Review Committeeon Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRCDMS).

Essential Functions
Program Leadership Role (40%)
  • Provide academic and administrative leadership for theDiagnostic Medical Sonography Program.10%

Faculty Role (60%)
  • Teach 12 credits per academic year in the Diagnostic MedicalSonography Program as assigned. 40%
  • Advise, recruit, and support students, fostering a culture ofacademic success and professional growth. 5%
  • Ensure ongoing program effectiveness through curriculumdevelopment, assessment, and continuous quality improvement.5%
  • Mentor faculty and staff, promoting professional developmentand instructional excellence. 5%
  • Engage in college service, strategic planning, and communitypartnerships to advance the mission of the institution. 5%
Experience and Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or Education-Related field.Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Current ARDMS certification in at least Abdomen and OB/GYN(additional certifications desirable).
  • At least two years of clinical experience as a registeredsonographer in the professional sonography field.
