What you’ll do as Program Director:

The Program Director provides overall leadership, administration, and day-to-day operational oversight for the Suicide Prevention Program across its service area. Program Director Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor staff and program performance against established goals for outreach, screening, enrollment, documentation, referrals, and participant outcomes.
  • Oversee eligibility verification, required screenings and assessments, individualized service and safety planning, referrals, follow-up, and timely documentation.
  • Ensure Veterans requiring clinical or emergency services receive timely, coordinated warm hand-offs to VA Suicide Prevention Teams and other appropriate resources.
  • Lead outreach and engagement efforts across the program’s service area and ensure effective engagement of Veterans who may not be connected to VA care.
  • Develop and maintain strong referral and coordination relationships with VA healthcare systems, Vet Centers, VSOs, suicide prevention coalitions, and other Veteran-serving and community partners.
  • Ensure staff receive required training and maintain applicable suicide prevention and crisis-response certifications.
  • Oversee accurate and timely program documentation, data collection, and reporting.
  • Partner with the Data Quality and Assurance Officer to monitor compliance, conduct quality reviews, address deficiencies, and support continuous quality improvement.
  • Coordinate required VA reports, monitoring activities, audits, and corrective actions, working with senior leadership and Finance to ensure programmatic and fiscal compliance.
  • Represent VOAMASS at relevant community meetings, coalitions, and Veteran events and perform other related duties as required.
The Program Director role is about making a difference in the lives of the people we serve. As Program Director, you’ll bring the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership and program management experience, including staff supervision, performance management, program implementation, and grant or contract compliance.
  • Knowledge of veterans affairs, military culture, veteran reintegration needs, and barriers that may contribute to suicide risk. Knowledge of trauma-informed, person-centered, culturally responsive, and evidence-based suicide prevention and crisis response practices; familiarity with VA S.A.V.E., QPR, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, or similar models preferred. Familiarity with moral injury and appropriate treatment modalities.
  • Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with VA healthcare systems, community providers, veteran service organizations, public agencies, and other referral partners.
  • Strong written communication, data review, quality assurance, and funder reporting skills, including the ability to interpret program requirements and translate them into staff procedures and performance expectations.
  • Experience with electronic case management or health record systems and performance reporting tools; experience with CareLogic, PlanStreet, and/or VA data reporting systems preferred.
  • Ability to supervise staff working across a geographically dispersed service area and the use of program data to monitor performance, identify barriers, and implement corrective action.
