Job summary

YMCA of Central NM is seeking a Program Counselor to supervise a group of children in a School Age setting. You will plan developmentally appropriate activities aligned with YMCA values and maintain safety and ratios.

You will participate in staff trainings and ensure inclusive participation while building positive relations with parents and staff. This role includes housekeeping duties and involvement in fundraising initiatives at our Santa Fe location.

Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent; one year of college preferred.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in a School Age setting.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • At least 18 years of age; age requirements may vary by state and YMCA policies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a group of children.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and aligned with YMCA core values.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Ensures program standards, ratios and safety procedures are followed, including medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Greets and maintains a positive relationship with parents, children and staff daily.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties; uses location checklists for cleaning.
  • Assists in planning and preparing a creative learning environment with centers of interest and materials.
  • Participates in Annual Fundraising.
  • Ensures inclusivity for all children's participation in activities.
  • Adheres to YMCA policies on dress code, punctuality and electronics usage.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures related to medical and disciplinary situations.

Overview

The Program Counselor provides direct supervision of a group of children in a School Age setting. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises a group of children.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Ensures YMCA program standards and ratios are met and safety procedures are followed, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Greets and maintain a positive relationship with parents, children and staff on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping duties. Checklist for cleaning is located at each location.
  • Assists in the planning and preparation of a creative learning environment. Establishing centers of interest, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  • Participates in Annual Fundraising.
  • To be inclusive to all children's ability to participate in group activities.
  • Adheres to YMCA's policies and procedures involving dress code, punctuality and use of electronics.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a School Age setting
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc...
  • At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies.)
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
