Job summary

Berwick - YMCA is seeking a seasonal day camp supervisor to oversee a group of children, planning daily recreational, social, educational, and cultural activities aligned with YMCA core values. The role fosters a small community environment and delivers a quality experience for children and parents.

The position requires high school graduation (or equivalent), camp experience preferred, and completion of CPR/First Aid/AED and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.

  • Experience working with children, preferably in a day camp.
  • At least 18 years of age and available to work for the summer.

  • Maintains safety and adheres to program standards and cleanliness.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies including medical, disciplinary, abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with campers, parents, and staff.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Plans and implements daily recreational, social development, educational and cultural activities for groups of children. Fosters an environment of small community living. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Supervises a group of children under YMCA policies for supervision at all times.
  2. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. Participates in all camp activities.
  3. Maintains safety at all times. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  4. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  6. Maintains positive relations with campers, parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  2. Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting
  3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc…
  4. At least 18 years of age
  5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  6. Must be dependable, able to make sound decisions outside of direct supervision and available to work for the duration of summer.
  7. Must possess a professional demeanor with the ability to act and work as a team with other camp staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
