Job summary

Purdue University’s Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence seeks a dynamic professional to support and advance its programs, conferences, events, and initiatives. The role offers either Program Coordinator or Program Manager level placement depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management/administration, international relations, higher education administration, communications, or a related field.
  • One year of relevant professional experience in program administration or related field for Coordinator; three years for Manager.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support planning, logistics, and execution of programs, conferences, events, workshops, and initiatives.
  • Serve as a primary contact for faculty, staff, students, and partners.
  • Facilitate communications and ensure accurate dissemination of program information.
  • Support implementation of program policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with leadership to set goals and objectives.
  • Assist with program assessment and evaluate outcomes.
  • Contribute to development of new program initiatives aligned with university priorities.
  • Ensure continuity and success of assigned programs.
  • Participate in budget planning and resource management as appropriate.

Office of the Provost | Purdue University

The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence seeks a dynamic and organized professional to support and advance the Center's mission through the administration of programs, conferences, events, workshops, and strategic initiatives. This position may be filled at either the Program Coordinator or Program Manager level, depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated capabilities.

In this role, you will collaborate with the Center Director and team members to coordinate and support a diverse portfolio of programs that serve faculty, staff, graduate students, and community partners. You will help ensure the successful planning, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of Center initiatives while fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What You'll Do
  • Coordinate and support the planning, logistics, and execution of Center programs, conferences, events, workshops, and special initiatives.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for faculty, staff, graduate students, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate communications and help ensure accurate, consistent dissemination of program information and practices.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing administration of program policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Center Director and team members to establish operational goals and objectives.
  • Assist with program assessment efforts and contribute to evaluating program effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Support the development and implementation of new program initiatives aligned with the Center's mission and university priorities.
  • Ensure the operational continuity and success of assigned programs and activities.
  • Participate in budget planning and resource management activities, as appropriate to the position level.
Level Placement
Program Coordinator
  • Early-career professional role focused on supporting program operations under close supervision.
  • Assists with implementing established processes and procedures.
  • Gains experience through structured, task-oriented work while building expertise in program administration.
  • Supports day-to-day activities and operational execution of assigned programs.
Program Manager
  • Experienced professional role operating under general supervision with significant independent judgment.
  • Manages the day-to-day administration of assigned programs and initiatives.
  • Participates in developing and enhancing program policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Utilizes progressive professional experience to address moderately complex challenges and advance program objectives.
  • May assume greater responsibility for budget activities, strategic planning, and program development efforts.

Education and Experience

Qualified candidates will need:

Program Coordinator
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management/administration, international relations, higher education administration, communications, or a related field
  • One (1) year of relevant professional experience in program administration, project coordination, higher education operations, or a closely related field
  • In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
Program Manager
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management/administration, international relations, higher education administration, communications, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of relevant professional experience in program administration, project coordination, higher education operations, or a closely related field
  • In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
Preferred
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, and graduate students and in an academic environment
Skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in standard office productivity software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint), and the ability to learn and apply program-specific or university enterprise systems (e.g., Banner, Cognos, Brightspace, Slate). Digital fluency and proficiency with major document management and communication software (e.g., Delivra, Outlook Calendar, Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, OneDrive).
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze program data; generate reports; and develop charts, dashboards, or other data visualization tools. Competency in managing multiple concurrent projects and assignments, adhering to timelines, and maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Familiarity with program assessment methodologies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, graduate students, and various external constituents.
  • Must be highly organized with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be creative in finding new ways to implement programs and engage faculty participants.
  • Ability to work independently and with groups to develop, initiate, and run new and existing programs.
  • Must be self-motivated, confident, and resourceful with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain collaborative working relationships across organizational boundaries, exercising tact, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity
  • Proven capacity to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to respond effectively to inquiries and resolve routine issues independently.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and thrive in a changing, dynamic environment.
