Pay rate: $18.93 - $27 per hour

General Description of Job:

The Program Coordinator will design and implement activities suited to different age groups, working with counselors to ensure quality programming across various areas. Activities should promote creativity, cooperation, skill development, and self-esteem.

Daily Responsibilities:
  1. Plan, set up, and deliver engaging activities for children.
  2. Supervise snack times.
  3. Greet campers and parents warmly, demonstrating enthusiasm.
  4. Develop positive relationships with families and understand their reasons for choosing our Y.
  5. Model and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
  6. Learn camper names and respond to their needs.
  7. Teach problem-solving and basic discipline skills.
  8. Maintain camp cleanliness.
  9. Perform responsibilities enthusiastically, going beyond minimum expectations, and treat campers and staff with respect.
  10. Act as needed when not leading specific programs.
Safety & Supervision:
  1. Follow sign-in/sign-out policies and maintain attendance records.
  2. Attend staff meetings and complete required training.
  3. Uphold safety standards, understand risk management, and follow policies and procedures.
  4. Report concerns promptly to supervisors.
Personal Conduct:
  1. Maintain professionalism as a YMCA representative.
  2. Wear Camp T-shirt daily.
  3. Maintain a positive attitude, responsibility, punctuality, and reliability.
Direct Reports:

The Extended Care Camp Counselor reports to the Program Coordinator and Camp Director.

Minimum Requirements: Skills/Knowledge

Must have positive interaction skills, strong communication, creativity, flexibility, and energy. Expertise in a specific activity and ability to teach effectively are essential. Experience in leading staff and campers, good judgment, and understanding of child development and behavior management are required.

Experience/Education:

High school diploma required. At least three years of experience working with children and supervising staff.

Physical Effort and Dexterity:

Must be able to stand for long periods, supervise children actively, and lift up to 30 pounds.

Visual, Hearing, Speaking:

Must visually account for children, hear alarms or whistles, and speak clearly to command groups.
