Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Program Coordinator for CHEA to support operations, planning, coordination, communication and evaluation of community health education and advocacy initiatives.

You will work with pediatric healthcare providers and trainees to develop curricula, sustain advocacy efforts, and expand health equity programs across Chicago. The role requires collaboration, event management, and grant support within the Magoon Institute.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. A combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience is directly related to the duties of the job.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in community health programming or engagement, education, healthcare/public health, administration, or related field required.
• Strong project coordination experience and organizational skills required.
• Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends, travel throughout Chicago likely.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify health priorities and develop community health and engagement strategies.
• Coordinate planning, development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives and events within the Magoon Institute under guidance of senior staff.
• Act as contact for community partners and stakeholders across Chicago neighborhoods.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including communications, scheduling and reporting of meetings and events.
• Support coordination of convenings, trainings and workshops with diverse representation.
• Coordinate program logistics, track expenditures, prepare status reports and assist with meetings and administrative tasks.
• Assist in communications, marketing and social media for initiatives and education.
• Support program evaluation through data collection and participant feedback.
• Assist in connecting healthcare providers with community resources and engage leaders.
• Assist in grant and philanthropic applications and reporting to funders.
• Facilitate trainings and assist with HR processes for staff, interns and volunteers.
• Attend regular leadership check-ins and department meetings.

Job Description

The Program Coordinator for Community Health Education and Advocacy (CHEA) supports the operation, planning, coordination, communication and evaluation of community health education, advocacy, and health-related social needs initiatives within the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities. Under the guidance of the CHEA Director, the Coordinator partners with pediatric healthcare providers, trainees and allied health professionals across disciplines and career levels to develop, implement and sustain innovative curricula and advocacy efforts that advance health equity and strengthen alignment between clinical care and community health.

The Coordinator contributes to CHEA and hospital-wide initiatives focused on upstream prevention, the root causes of health disparities, and the social and structural factors that influence health. The position supports the sustainability and expansion of these efforts by coordinating curricular and strategic planning, monitoring progress toward program and funding requirements and helping identify and steward philanthropic, foundation and government funding for community health education and advocacy initiatives.

The Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities serves as Lurie Children’s hub for community-focused initiatives. The Magoon Institute brings together clinical care, advocacy, research, education and community engagement to advance community health and health equity for infants, children, adolescents and families across Chicago. The Institute also leads Lurie Children’s Community Health Needs Assessment and Community Health Improvement Strategy, which guide the hospital’s community health priorities and investments.

Essential Job Functions

• Collaborate with internal and external partners, including community leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers and public health practitioners to identify health priorities and develop community health and engagement strategies.
• Coordinate the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of community health and engagement initiatives, programs and events within the Magoon Institute under the guidance of senior staff and manager, keeping in mind community priorities, community health strategies and organizational mission.
• Act as contact for Lurie Children’s with community partners, residents and marginalized populations across Chicago neighborhoods, particularly those disproportionately affected by health inequities.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including communications, scheduling and reporting of meeting and events, to develop and advance community health education and advocacy initiatives.
• Support coordination of community and city-wide convenings, trainings and workshops as well as assisting with action planning, ensuring diverse representations from various backgrounds and lived experience.
• Coordinate program logistics, track project expenditures, facilitate meetings and events and maintain project materials and documentation to ensure timely and budget-conscious deliverables. Prepare regular status reports on project progress, outcomes and impact. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, booking conference rooms/space, making copies, preparing meeting supplies, taking notes and compiling key takeaways, decisions and action items.
• Assist in the development and implementation of communications, marketing and/or social media efforts for specific community health and engagement initiatives and education, including the delivery of presentations to various audiences.
• Support program evaluation through data collection, gathering participant feedback, and monitoring outputs and outcomes to measure effectiveness and demonstrate impact.
• Assist in facilitating connections between Lurie Children's healthcare providers and community partners to ensure access to health education and resources for children and families. Engage Lurie Children’s leaders, employees, physicians, and trainees in community health efforts.
• Assist in grant and philanthropic applications and reporting to funders, as well as fundraising efforts under the guidance of senior staff, manager and dept leadership.
• Facilitate trainings, provide support and assist with human resource processes for program assistants, students, interns and volunteers.
• Attend and contribute to regular check‑ins with leadership, managers, staff and collaborators, and attend team and department meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. A combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience is directly related to the duties of the job.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in community health programming or engagement, education, healthcare/public health, administration, or related field required.
• Strong project coordination experience and organizational skills required.

• Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication, , organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical skills, problem solving and attention to detail required, particularly within a large, complex environment.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft 365 software required. Experience with database management and survey software and tools preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
• Ability to collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines and build relationships across all levels of the organization.

Pay Range

$59,280.00-$96,928.00 Salary

At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions. In addition to base salary, Lurie Children’s offer a comprehensive rewards package that may include differentials for some hourly employees, leadership incentives for select roles, health and retirement benefits, and wellbeing programs.
