The City of Somerville seeks a dynamic Program Coordinator to oversee and implement recreational programs for diverse populations. Responsibilities include collaborating with community partners, managing registrations, and ensuring quality programming in parks and recreation. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree and relevant experience, along with strong organizational and communication skills.
The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and participating in the development, implementation, and oversight of recreational activities. This includes activities for children, adults, seniors, and other special citizens of Somerville. Performs all related duties.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years’ experience Parks and Recreation experience and / or experience planning and conducting athletic programs; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications provided annually by the City of Somerville.
Must be able to operate a personal computer system using up-to-date software
Must possess a valid class D driver’s license and a safe driving record. Must be able to successfully pass a driver’s history check and be approved to drive City vehicles.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill
Must possess:
Ability: Ability to meet and deal with the public effectively and appropriately; ability to handle problems effectively; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to operate a computer; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to maintain, manage, and organize records; ability to deal appropriately with employees, officials and members of the general public. Additionally, the ability to evaluate situations and make decisions; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees; ability to plan, organizes, assign, and inspect the work of subordinates; ability to work an erratic schedule with some overtime, weekend, and holiday work required; ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in a rapid succession; ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions; ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and written; and the ability to complete accurate records and make reports.
Skill: Excellent organizational skills; excellent data processing skill in the use of personal computers and office software including word, excel, and spreadsheet applications.
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours in response to attend evening meetings or complete work assignments. Work in the field involves regular exposure to outside elements.
Physical and Mental Requirements

Physical Skills
Minimal physical demands are required to perform the work. Work effort principally involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing. Work requires some agility such as moving in or about athletic fields, ice rinks, or over rough terrain. There may also be some occasional lifting of objects such as recreational equipment, office equipment or photocopy paper (up to 30lbs.).
Motor Skills
Duties are both mental and physical, the job may occasionally require motor skills for activities such as moving objects, interacting in recreational activities, operating a telephone, personal computer and/or most other office equipment including word processing, excel, filing and sorting of papers.
Visual Skills
Visual demands require constantly reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.
