Job summary

The Battery Network is a mission-driven nonprofit seeking a Program Coordinator to manage battery stewardship programs across the U.S. The role focuses on delivering compliant collection and recycling services while supporting 1–3 state programs and nurturing retailer partnerships.

You will handle onboarding, customer success, and data-driven performance analysis, traveling up to 50% regionally and working remotely from Washington state.

POSITION SUMMARY

At The Battery Network, we proudly manage battery stewardship programs across the U.S. on behalf of more than 200 battery and battery-powered product manufacturers. As battery regulations continue to expand, we’re looking for a Program Coordinator to help deliver a best-in-class collection and recycling program—ensuring strong compliance at every step, from end user through final processing.

In this role, you’ll support the day-to-day operations of 1–3 state stewardship programs and play a key role in building and maintaining successful partnerships with stakeholders and retail collection sites. You’ll be an essential part of the team, helping ensure our programs run smoothly, efficiently, and at the highest standard.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as the program ambassador and first-level contact for customers (i.e. collection sites), helping to deliver program value throughout the customer journey.
  • Onboard customers by serving as the subject matter expert through all stages of the onboarding process, blending both individual touches and automation.
  • Manage a high-volume of activities from multiple sources (via phone, email, website) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain regular outreach via site visits, phone, and email to support customer satisfaction and meet key performance indicators.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership, project teams, and internal departments to optimize the account relationship, enhance collection program performance, and ensure that customer needs are understood and satisfied.
  • Maintain complete customer records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Compile data-based metrics and analyze results to monitor program performance and customer activity through dashboards and reports and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure regulated state performance goals are met, including accessibility targets (e.g., number of collection sites) and total battery collection volumes.
  • Partner with the Customer Success team to ensure collection site requests are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Prepare for and attend relevant recycling conferences in region.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in program coordination, customer service, inside sales, account support, or a related field; OR
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum one (1) year of proven program coordination, program management, customer support, sales, customer service, or related experience.
  • Understands the interdependence of activities required to deliver best-in-class sustainability and recycling initiatives.
  • Embodies a thirst for learning and a naturally curious mindset.
  • Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States for The Battery Network, with or without sponsorship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supporting high-growth, customer-facing programs or initiatives, with a track record of contributing to change and continuous improvement.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM software preferred.
  • General understanding of the recycling, environmental, stewardship, or sustainability industries.
  • Working knowledge of or experience in environmental, sustainability, retail, nonprofit, or producer responsibility organization (PRO) environments.
  • Exposure to environmental regulations, compliance programs, or stewardship initiatives preferred.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, work autonomously, and demonstrate a sense of urgency when needed.
  • Strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills, with the ability to balance short-term needs and long-term objectives.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position is remote based within Washington State. Candidates must be able to work from a Washington State-based location and be eligible to work lawfully in the United States for The Battery Network.
  • Travel (up to ~50%) to support the Regional State Stewardship Manager with customer visits, training, or meetings, and to attend occasional organization-wide meetings.
  • Standard full-time work hours are Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day. Some roles may require additional hours during peak periods. We prioritize the quality and timeliness of work over rigid schedules and recognize the importance of connection, collaboration, and work-life balance.
