RFCUNY seeks an Adult Literacy Program Coordinator to support two literacy programs for English language learners and adult students in New York City. The role combines administrative coordination, student support, outreach, and data management to ensure compliance and smooth operation.

You will assist intake, testing, attendance, communications, and documentation, collaborate with the Program Manager and instructors, and provide bilingual support as needed in a linguistically diverse setting.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, communications, social services, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in educational, nonprofit, community-based, or adult literacy settings preferred.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities, especially Spanish and/or languages commonly spoken by NYC adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary contact for prospective and current students via phone, email, text, or social media.
  • Assist intake, orientation, registration, and testing processes.
  • Maintain rosters, attendance records, and student databases with accuracy.
  • Enter and maintain student data in spreadsheets/databases.
  • Prepare certificates of completion and other materials.
  • Support outreach, recruitment, and promotion activities.

This position combines administrative coordination, student support, communication, outreach, and data management responsibilities in support of program compliance and smooth program functioning.The Program Coordinator works closely with the Program Manager, instructional staff, and students to support intake, registration, testing, attendance tracking, communication, and general program operations. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively with linguistically and culturally diverse adult learners.Some responsibilities may be completed remotely as approved by the Program Manager.RESPONSIBILITIESStudent Support & Communicatio nServe as a primary point of contact for prospective and current students via phone, email, text, and/or social mediaRespond to student inquiries regarding registration, schedules, attendance, testing, and program policiesSupport students during intake, orientation, registration, and testing processAssist students with general questions and referralsMaintain professional and culturally responsive communication with adult learners from diverse backgroundsProvide bilingual communication support if applicableProgram Operations & Administrative SupportCreate and maintain class rosters each semester based on placement test results and teacher recommendationsEnsure rosters, attendance records, and student databases are accurate and updated regularlyEnter and maintain student demographic information, assessment scores, attendance, and related data in spreadsheets and/or required databasesEnsure all required student forms and documentation are completed and properly filedAssist with student ID creation and coordination with campus officesPrepare certificates of completion and other student materialsAssist with classroom logistics, photocopying, supply organization, and program setup as neededMaintain organized digital and physical program recordsAssist with compliance-related documentation and data collection required by NYSED and/or grant-funded programmingSupport pre- and post-testing coordination and trackingOutreach, Recruitment & PromotionRespond to inquiries from prospective students in general inboxUpdate flyers, promotional materials, QR codes, and registration information each semesterAssist with maintaining program websites and/or social media platformsHelp document program events and activities through photos, slideshows, newsletters, or other mediaCollaboration & General SupportMaintain regular communication with the Program ManagerParticipate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as requiredSupport special events, orientations, intake days, and end-of-semester celebrationsPerform related duties and special projects as assignedREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, communications, social services, or a related field preferredExperience working in educational, nonprofit, community-based, or adult literacy settings preferredBilingual or multilingual abilities, especially Spanish and/or languages commonly spoken by NYC adult learnersStrong organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and deadlinesAbility to work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse populationsStrong technology skills, including familiarity with Google Workspace, spreadsheets, databases, and online communication platformsAbility to maintain confidentiality and professionalismAbility to work onsite during program hoursPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience working with adult learners and/or immigrant communitiesFamiliarity with NYSED-funded adult literacy programs, data tracking systems, or educational compliance requirementsExperience with student intake, testing coordination, or educational program administrationExperience with Canva, social media management, website updates, or outreach materialsSUPERVISIONThe Adult Literacy Program Coordinator reports to the Adult Literacy Program Manager.PHYSICAL AND LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to be present onsite for program activitiesAbility to work in classroom and office settingsAbility to use a computer for communication, documentation, and data entryOccasional off-schedule communication with students and staffPay Range:$25 to $25 per hourRFCUNY BenefitsEqual Employment Opportunity StatementThe Research Foundation of the City University of New York is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/Americans with Disabilities Act/E-Verify Employer.
