Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW)

The Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW) aims to eliminate health‑related barriers to learning and advance health equity in Chicago. CPS is committed to addressing barriers to student health and wellness and providing education, programs, and activities that help improve the quality of life for students attending our schools as well as strive to decrease health disparities within the district through the coordination of school health programs and student health services.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Healthy CPS Policy & Engagement Program Manager with high‑level leadership from the Executive Director of the Office of Student Health and Wellness and Chief Health Officer, the Program Coordinator will provide critical support and leadership in advancing Chicago Public Schools’ commitment to student health and wellness, focusing on partnerships, programming, resource development, and technical assistance for policy implementation. In addition to continuous improvement and yearly facilitation of the Healthy CPS Survey, the district measures how successfully schools implemented Healthy CPS throughout the school year. This is a full‑time exempt position that will be paid for hours worked on a salary basis.

  • Salary Range: $58,000 - $76,000
  • Position Type: Non‑Union Position
  • Overtime Status: Exempt
Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑level overview, coordination, and evaluation of training across OSHW.
  • Collaborate with the OSHW data team to produce and disseminate quarterly reports that communicate schools’ compliance progress throughout the school year.
  • Communicate Procurement processes to partners, including Strategic Source Vendor onboarding, and No‑Cost Service Agreements.
  • Collect, report, and monitor data related to external partners’ provision of health and wellness services to schools.
  • Oversee the OSHW Materials Review Committee, which ensures new and existing health and wellness partners are aligned with OSHW priorities and policies.
  • Plan and execute the Whole Child Summit, in partnership with Luries Childrens‑Magoon Institute, which convenes health and wellness partners for networking, sharing of best practices relevant to Healthy CPS policy implementation and CPS District updates pertaining to Healthy CPS.
  • Create and maintain Healthy CPS resources, including toolkits, slide decks, webinars, Intranet webpage and public‑facing web pages, and update/create new materials as needed.
  • Oversee the implementation and distribution of content for internal and external communications for Healthy CPS, including the Healthy CPS Digest, a monthly e‑newsletter.
  • Respond to questions and provide information about Healthy CPS policies and resources via the OSHW inbox, Healthy CPS Office Hours, and other communications channels.
  • Develop and employ professional learning opportunities for school staff and stakeholders to implement key health and wellness initiatives including wellness teams, health education, physical education, competitive foods, and chronic disease policy implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; Focus in Public Health, Public Policy, Education, Human Services or a related field is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in public health, public policy, business administration or a related field preferred.
Experience Required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing ADA and workplace accommodations.
  • Minimum of five (5) years supervisory and/or team leadership experience.
  • Experience within a large complex organization, large school district setting and/or public sector experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a unionized labor environment preferred.
Other Requirements
  • Access to reliable transportation and to travel to sites across the City of Chicago (a plus).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets and maintaining large datasets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of marginalized communities and the factors that affect health disparities in Chicago.
  • Exceptional writing, verbal and interpersonal skills, including public speaking.
  • Keen analytical skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to think high‑level and to translate ideas into realistic, actionable plans.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to synthesize and apply information for various audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments.
  • Expertise in facilitating meetings.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment, be highly organized and flexible.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a project team.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Keen project management skills highly preferred.
Conditions of Employment

Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part‑time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
