Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) invites applications for a faculty position teaching Pharmacy Technician/Community Pharmacy Technician to diploma and vocational diploma students. You will develop and teach courses, advise students, and maintain laboratory facilities and equipment.

The role involves curriculum development, supervising clinical learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, and participating in departmental activities.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or higher. Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred.
  • Pharmacy Technician: Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher. ASHP-accredited program preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time or equivalent work experience in Pharmacy practice.
  • One of: three years in last five years, or two years teaching Pharmacy Technician at post-secondary level within last five years.
  • Pharmacy Technician - Valid CPhT by PTCB.
  • Pharmacy Technician - Valid WI license by DSPS.
  • Must meet WTCS Certification Requirements.
  • Must meet HLC standards (if applicable).
  • Ability to relate to students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Teaching – adhere to Standards of Teaching Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain program accreditation requirements (annual reports, self-studies, etc.).
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and related activities.
  • Manage classroom and laboratory facilities.
  • Develop and revise curriculum; evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Manage equipment and supplies for the program.
  • Assess student performance and advise on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote program and recruit/retain students; market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop industry relations.
  • Complete program evaluations and follow-up.

Under the supervision of the Dean of the Healthcare Pathway ordesignee, to teach classroom and laboratory courses in PharmacyTechnician/Community Pharmacy Technician to diploma and vocationaldiploma students. Related duties include development and teachingof all pharmacy technician/community pharmacy technician courses, advising/mentoring students, maintaining laboratory facilities,ordering equipment and supplies, planning and supervising clinicallearning experiences, evaluating student achievement,developing/revising the curriculum, helping to formulatedepartmental policy and procedures, evaluating programeffectiveness, developing strategies to enhance studentachievement, participation in divisional and departmentalactivities, and other duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform duties required in order to maintain programaccreditation including annual reports, self-studies and othertasks as required by The American Society of Health SystemPharmacists.
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teachingrelated activities

Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Pharmacist

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy orhigher. Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred.

-OR-
Pharmacy Technician

Must have a Bachelor’s degree orhigher. Graduate of an American Society of Health SystemPharmacists (ASHP) accredited pharmacy technician training programpreferred.

Occupational Requirements

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of full-time or equivalent(6, 000 hours) work experience in Pharmacy practice.

In addition, one of the following must be met:

  • At least three (3) years of work experience must have occurredwithin the last five (5) years.
  • Two (2) years of teaching Pharmacy Technician course work atthe post-secondary level within the last five (5) years.
Industry Certification

Pharmacy Technician - Valid Certified Pharmacy Technician(CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

Licensure

Pharmacy Technician - Valid Pharmacy Technician license fromthe State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and ProfessionalServices.

Pharmacist - Valid Registered Pharmacist (RPh) license bythe State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and ProfessionalServices.

  • Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learningstrongly preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral andwritten means.
  • Must have knowledge of assessment of student academicachievement techniques.

HEALTHCARE PATHWAY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must satisfactorily complete health requirements for the Schoolof Health Science, which include a criminal background check, drugtest, and verification of immunizations.
Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the Healthcare Pathway and is available to start immediately.

Hours: This position is full-time. Full-time faculty are assigned a minimum workload of 32 hours per week. Course load and schedule will depend on course availability. Work schedule could include in person, online, hybrid, daytime, evening, and weekendteaching assignments. All work must be conducted in the state ofWisconsin.

Salary: Full-time faculty salary position is determined based on the individual’s education and years of relevant experience and is assigned to the appropriate salary class and step in accordance with the applicable salary schedule. Compensation is prorated based on start date.

Interview: As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time, which may be conducted in-person or virtually.
