Responsibilities

  • Recruit, organize, train, and schedule cantors and musicians for Mass.
  • Being able to sing or play an instrument is encouraged
  • Ability to read music, select appropriate and accurate hymns and psalms encouraged.
  • Assist in setup of musicians, cantors, music sheets, cantor music for Masses.
  • Provide support for Campus Ministry as needed including event advertising and support, helping to coordinate Campus Ministry fundraisers, helping to maintain Campus Ministry blog and website, and assisting professional staff with projects as needed.
  • Be dynamically involved in leadership and spiritual formation: Attend a weekly worship service and active participation in Campus Ministry student leader trainings and meetings
  • Meet regularly with a member of Campus Ministry Staff for purpose exploration, spiritual development, articulation of progress towards meeting goals and dialogue about areas of concern.
  • Show hospitality, responsibility, professionalism, creativity, enthusiasm and integrity in their ministry.
  • Be willing to collaborate with other student leaders within Campus Ministry.
  • Organize and keep a record of their various projects so they can be used as a reference in future projects.
  • Represent Campus Ministry and all its programming in a positive way to students, parents, staff and faculty, and community members.
  • Other Campus Ministry tasks as needed
  • Campus Ministry is built on meeting people where they are at and walking with them. This position of Musician/Cantor is that for Campus Ministry. There are endless opportunities for the student in this position to build a music and singing program that enhances student Mass and Praise and Worship events. They get to offer praise though music which is an amazing opportunity on a Catholic Campus.
  • This individual gets to develop their musical talents in a regular performance routine that has limitless variations. The contribution of music at mass is remarkable and is a draw for students. There is no budget to pay the full cost of outside musicians so having an in-house musician for Campus Ministry allows for music at mass and beyond. The beauty of music and the human voice are arts that our community needs.

Job Description: Program Assistant for Cantor/Musician

Program Assistant for Cantor/Musician works in collaboration with a Campus Minister to provide a cantor and or musician at mass.

Supervisor: Dave Gunnarson

Length of Position: Academic Year
