Zusammenfassung

City of Hobbs in Hobbs, NM seeks a Youth Programs/Community Services assistant to develop and deliver engaging educational, recreational, STEM, and literacy programs while delivering excellent customer service. The role supports daily library operations and outreach events for youth and the community.

You will collaborate with the Teen Librarian and educators, plan weekly activities, and help promote programs through flyers and displays.

Qualifikationen

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required with previous compensated work with programming preferred.
  • Understanding of child, teen and adult learning styles.
  • Ability to think creatively and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System and library classification concepts.
  • Ability to establish relationships with staff and the public.
  • Familiarity with youth library competencies and YALSA Teen Services guidance preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities preferred.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Supports the library’s youth and community services by developing and delivering engaging educational, recreational, STEM, literacy, and outreach programs while providing excellent customer service and assisting with daily library operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Assists the programming librarian team to develop and implement innovative programs that encourage literacy, library use and enhance the image of the library in the community.
  • Assists with planning and implementing weekly programming, as well as (youth) annual summer reading programming for all ages.
  • Provides outstanding internal and external customer service. Demonstrates a positive attitude and supports library goals and objectives.
  • Assists with daily operation of the programming area of the library.
  • May organize and give tours of the library to students and groups.
  • Works closely with teachers, preschool operators, and parents providing recreational, and educational content, programs and materials.
  • Offers outreach programming and events at external locations.
  • May decorate the library spacesto align with chosen themes.
  • Develops creative flyers and displays to promote programs and build interest and participation.
  • Plans crafts for programs and events, and attend outreach events.
  • Performs in-depth reference service as needed.
  • Offer assistance to library users navigating library resources and offerings.
  • Assists in departmental collection needs, such as moving books, modifying locations, or shelving titles.
  • This position reports to the Teen Librarian.
  • Assists Circulation Department and Children’s Department as needed.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.

This position is subject to the City of Hobbs’ Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required with previous compensated work with programming preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Understanding of child, teen and adult learning styles.

Ability to think creatively.

Ability to learn Dewey Decimal System and other alphabetic and/or numeric library material classification systems and place library material in the proper place pursuant to these systems.

Ability to communicate effectively with children of all ages and adults.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff and the general public.

Study, learn and utilize principals of youth library competencies including Every Child Ready to Read, and YALSA’s Teen Services within 180 days of hire.

Study and gain familiarity with New Mexico State Library training resources.

Bilingual preferred.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the guidance and direction of the Teen Librarian and the Library Director.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS

Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.

Ability to obtain CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire.

Valid state issued driver’s license.
