Job summary

Queens Community House in Jamaica, NY is seeking a Program Assistant to support older adults and strengthen community connections at the Jamaica Older Adult Center. You will greet participants, provide information, manage daily clerical tasks, and help with meals and activities.

This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with diverse neighbors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in administrative, clerical, customer service, community-based, or older adult services preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn databases and other technology systems.
  • Ability to accurately enter, maintain, and reconcile information.
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with older adults, colleagues, families, and community members.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to providing welcoming, respectful, and inclusive services to a diverse community.

  • Assist with meal distribution and other daily center operations.
  • Support staff and instructors with program activities, workshops, and special events.
  • Engage with participants and encourage participation in center programs and activities.
  • Assist with outreach efforts to increase participation and strengthen community involvement.

Program Assistant – Jamaica Older Adult Center

Are you organized, welcoming, and passionate about supporting older adults and strengthening community connections? Queens Community House (QCH) is seeking a dedicated Program Assistant to join our team at the Jamaica Older Adult Center.

What You’ll Do
Participant & Clerical Support
  • Welcome and assist participants and guests in person and by phone, providing accurate information and guidance.
  • Create, print, and distribute flyers for programs, activities, workshops, and special events.
  • Process and complete membership registrations for older adult participants.

Data Entry & Reporting
  • Accurately enter daily program activity units into STARS/Peer Place.
  • Reconcile daily activity logs with entries in STARS/Peer Place to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports of activity units and daily activity sheets.Work collaboratively with the Database Manager to maintain accurate participant files and program data.
  • Ensure required documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant and program information.
Program & Center Support
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down meal spaces.

  • Support staff and instructors with program activities, workshops, and special events.
  • Engage with participants and encourage participation in center programs and activities.
  • Assist with outreach efforts to increase participation and strengthen community involvement.

Teamwork & Professional Development
  • Collaborate with center leadership, caseworkers, program instructors, consultants, kitchen staff, and other team members.
  • Participate in staff meetings, required trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to QCH policies, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement efforts.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the annual training plan as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the Older Adult Center and QCH's organizational needs.
