Job summary

The Saratoga Regional YMCA is hiring a part‑time Program Assistant to support youth sports programs, ensure child safety, and foster a welcoming atmosphere within the Y community in Ballston Spa, NY. You will assist with practices, maintain records, and help connect families with additional YMCA programs.

Ideal candidates have experience with youth activities, strong communication skills, and a commitment to the YMCA mission. This role offers a flexible schedule and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 15; must be able to furnish working papers.
• 1+ year of previous sports team participation experience.
• Current CPR PRO & First Aid certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leads and/or assists with instruction and supervision of practices; helps develop participants’ skills.
• Ensures safety and well‑being of each child under supervision; maintains a playful atmosphere.
• Maintains records as required (attendance, progress reports).
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment; reports damaged equipment.
• Conveys information on youth programs and schedules; refers students/parents to other programs.
• Identifies and celebrates participants' successes; communicates areas of concern.
• Follows YMCA policies and safety procedures; completes incident/accident reports as necessary.
• Builds authentic relationships with members; helps connect them with the Y; identifies potential volunteers.

Position Summary

The Saratoga Regional YMCA is hiring for a Program Assistant and we are excited to have you join our team! This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides support, instruction and motivation for youth sports participants. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

• Leads and/or assists with the instruction and supervision of all practices. Helps to develop participants’ skill and promote their involvement as part of a class.
• Ensures the safety and well‑being of each child under their supervision and maintains a creative and playful atmosphere for all participants.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Conveys information on youth programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants, as well as proactively communicating areas of concern.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps them connect with each other and the Y. Identifies potential volunteers.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and our three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
