Job summary

Kids for the Future in Foley, AL is seeking a part-time Program Assistant for the Games Room. The role runs about 20 hours weekly during the school year, with up to 40 hours in summer; shifts mostly 2:30pm–6:30pm on weekdays and occasional weekends.

Pay is $15.00 per hour. You will supervise the game room, plan activities, and promote youth development through play for members aged 6–18.

This is a PART-TIME position, approximately 20 hours per week (full-time hours in summer).

Position: Program Assistant - Games Room (Part-Time)
Hours: Between 2:30pm and 6:30pm Monday through Friday during the school year (up to 20 hours per week), and up to 40 hours per week between 7:30am-6:30pm during June and July for the summer program.

Occasional evening or weekend events may be required (these are very infrequent). Pay Rate: $15 per hour

Program Assistants work directly with Club members (ages 6 to 18) in our various program areas. The Games Room Program Assistant is responsible for overseeing the game room area within a club, planning and facilitating recreational activities for members, enforcing safety rules, maintaining equipment, and creating a positive and engaging environment for young people to enjoy various games and activities, all while promoting youth development through active play.

Requirements

This is a PART-TIME position, approximately 20 hours per week. (Full-time hours in the summer.)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Activity Planning and Implementation:

  • Designing and executing fun, age-appropriate games and tournaments using pool tables, air hockey, foosball, board games, video gaming, etc.
  • Introducing new games and activities to keep things fresh and engaging.
  • Adapting activities to cater to different skill levels and interests of members.

Supervision and Safety:

  • Monitoring the game room to ensure safe play and adherence to club rules.
  • Addressing conflicts or disruptive behavior promptly.
  • Enforcing proper equipment usage and maintenance.

Member Engagement:

  • Promoting game room activities to Club members and encouraging participation.
  • Building positive relationships with members and providing guidance as needed.
  • Facilitating team-building activities through games.

Operational Duties:

  • Keeping the game room clean and organized.
  • Maintaining inventory of games and equipment.
  • Reporting any issues with equipment or facilities to supervisors.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Recording participation data and maintaining logs.
  • Attending staff meetings and participating in training sessions (which may include two to four Saturdays throughout the year).

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Passion for working with youth: Genuine enthusiasm for engaging and supporting young people in a recreational setting.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to interact effectively with children and build rapport.
  • Leadership abilities: Confidence to guide and manage group activities.
  • Organizational skills: Capability to plan, manage, and execute activities efficiently.
  • Knowledge of recreational games and activities: Familiarity with various games (including video gaming)and ability to teach rules and strategies. E-sports will be soon be introduced into our program, so experience in gaming will be essential to the success of implementing this element.

EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (minimum of high school diploma or GED).
  • Experience: 1-year related work experience with youth, in similar programming.

FUNDAMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS

Maintains close daily contact with Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information. Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents, and others to assist in resolving problems/issues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Visual: Normal acuity required daily for making color distinction, depth of sight, preparing/analyzing figures, computer use, and written records 8+ hours

Communication: Able to express thoughts and ideas in an accurate and understandable manner through verbal and written format with internal and external contacts 8 hours per day

Movement: Ability to maneuver within work site 6-8 hours per day

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing/Carrying: Able to comfortably move and manipulate up to 20 lbs of weight up to 4-6 hours per day

*NOTE: All candidates are required to undergo a criminal background and driving records check, a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and a child abuse review by AL Department of Human Resources. Some sites will also require a TB test and basic physical. (All screens are employer-paid.)
