Job summary

The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) seeks an Acting Director of Special Education and/or Student Services to provide appropriate supports for students in BCIU programs or on assignment in districts, aligned with mandates.

Responsibilities include directing operations for special education, alternative education, and student services, and collaborating with school districts to coordinate programs, space, and materials. Salary offers growth with experience.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
• Valid Pennsylvania Certification as Supervisor of Special Education or Principal; Principal Certification preferred for building-level administrator positions.
• Five (5) years experience in education or related field; experience in special education and/or alternative education preferred.
• Ability to supervise and work effectively and cooperatively with administrative, professional, and non-professional staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide for the efficient and effective operation of special education, alternative education, and student services programs.
• Recruit, select, supervise, and evaluate professional and non-professional employees within the assigned program.
• Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services, including collaboration with school districts and principals, to secure space and materials and coordinate services for students.
• Coordinate and staff programs and services in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
