The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking professional to serve as Director, Office of Professional Learning. Summary of position

The Director of the Office of Professional Learning is a key member of the BCIU Leadership Team and provides visionary leadership in planning, administering, and supervising high-quality curriculum and professional learning programs for BCIU staff and local schools. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director leads program design and implementation, oversees staff recruitment and supervision, coordinates multi-district and statewide initiatives, and manages grants and budgets with strategic insight.

Serving as a trusted consultant to schools and internal teams, the Director offers expertise in instructional practices, curriculum development, and high-quality professional learning. This role requires a collaborative, innovative leader who remains current with best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory requirements in education.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance and consultative services to Berks County schools and BCIU staff in the areas of curriculum support, instructional strategies, and professional learning.
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, recommendation, supervision, and evaluation of professional and non-professional employees within the assigned programs.
  • Supervise the curriculum and instructional support services and professional learning programs provided to local schools and IU staff.
  • Organize, coordinate, and conduct specialized staff development programs for professional and support staff members employed by local schools and the BCIU.
  • Facilitate and implement multi-district consortia for topics identified by local schools.
  • Act as a liaison with various professional organizations.
  • Maintain and continually upgrade professional skills and acquire information in the areas of staff development, curriculum, and instruction.
  • Collaborate with staff members to coordinate existing programs and promote new initiatives for Berks County educators.
  • Prepare and monitor program budgets.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and develop grant applications and implementation as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison for statewide initiatives and projects.
  • Oversee related BCIU federal and state programs and grants.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in education or related area; doctorate preferred.
  • Valid Pennsylvania Letter of Eligibility required.
  • Central office experience required; building-level experience preferred.
  • Experience in:
    • The development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment strategies;
    • The planning and conducting of professional learning activities;
    • Identifying needs and solutions for school improvement through data analysis, and
    • Budget administration, program development and implementation, and writing educational program grants.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise professional and non-professional staff and work collaboratively with administrative, instructional, and non-instructional personnel.
Schedule

Exempt, Full-time, Twelve months/year.

Salary

Salary range is $134,308 to $181,711 (commensurate on experience) as established by the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors per the Compensation and Benefits Plan for Leadership Team, SRI 29.
