Job summary

Erie County Office of Mental Health & Intellectual Disabilities seeks a Program Accountant to provide administrative and accounting support for fiscal operations across MHID and HealthChoices.

The role involves preparing journal entries, maintaining accounts payable, reviewing invoices, and managing assets and HUD grants. Strong accounting knowledge and attention to detail are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports and statements.
  • Ability to perform detailed work involving written/numerical data to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 1 year as a Fiscal Assistant or 3 years Maintaining Fiscal Records OR an Associate's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration OR an equivalent combination of education and training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist both programs in the preparation of monthly journal entries, trial balances, financial reports wire transfers, and budgets.
  • Oversee accounts payable and weekly check runs.
  • Review batched invoices and batch control totals for accuracy.
  • Maintain contract control schedules and reconcile to financial statements.
  • Approve creation of new vendors and vendor maintenance.
  • Prepare voided check authorization forms and perform post-audit checks on accounts payable.
