Summary of Job Duties:
The J. B. Hunt Transport Department of Supply Chain Management in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas invites applications and nominations for a full-time Professor of Practice position effective August 11, 2025. Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.
The Professor of Practice position is a non-tenure track position with a three-course teaching load per semester or 18 credit hours per year. Appointments to Professor of Practice are intended for individuals with significant, long-term professional experience and demonstrated excellence in practice rather than primarily academic or scholarly credentials. Candidates should have a long-term distinguished record of professional achievement and recognition in areas such as retail, distribution operations, supply chain finance, merchandise planning, and global supply chain management.
Individuals are expected to teach courses, engage in scholarly and outreach activities, and be particularly suited to bridge the gap between academia and industry, enhancing the learning experience for students, facilitating industry engagement in research, and supporting the institution’s academic goals. Role responsibilities include delivering courses that draw from professional supply chain experience, serving as a mentor to students, offering career guidance and insights into industry practices and, developing and delivering teaching materials and assignments that reflect real-world experiences and requirements. Act as a liaison between the university and industry, fostering partnerships and networking opportunities. Collaborate with faculty to develop curriculum or courses that reflect current trends and needs in the professional world. Contribute to the design of experiential learning opportunities, such capstone projects or executive-level training programs. Engage in research that aligns with practical application and industry needs. Develop research projects and studies that can be integrated into coursework. Participate in industry-related events, workshops, and conferences.
Appointments of Professor of Practice faculty may be for up to three years and can be renewed with successful completion of the initial appointment. Any term of appointment in excess of one year must be merit-based and meet all criteria and procedural requirements addressed above. Any appointment not fully satisfying all such requirements shall not exceed one year.
Regular on-campus availability, in-person teaching, and active contribution to the life of the department, including exhibiting respect and cooperation in shared academic and administrative tasks are essential duties.
