San Jacinto College is seeking a Professor of Geology at the Central Campus in Pasadena, TX. The role involves delivering three Geology lecture sections and three Geology lab sections weekly, maintaining a structured schedule, and engaging in ongoing professional development and service.

The position requires a Master's degree in Geology or a related field with 18 graduate hours and ideally at least one year of college teaching experience.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geology or related field with at least eighteen graduate hours in Geology.
• At least one year of teaching experience in a college environment (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Maintain an approved weekly schedule that includes classroom contact hours, student conference hours, professional development, and College service.
• Provide classroom instruction for three (3) Geology lecture sections and three (3) Geology lab sections per week.
• Make a valuable contribution to the College in the following areas.
• Keeps up with developments in the field.
• Demonstrates high standards—academic and professional.
• Evaluates student work constructively and provides timely feedback.
• Teaches at times and locations that meet student needs.
• Provides access to students through posted conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods and responds to inquiries in a timely manner.
• Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learning materials.
• Develops and uses a syllabus and course information materials for each lecture course and laboratory within state, college, and departmental guidelines.
• Maintains high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
• Plans, develops, and uses effective teaching methods and materials which assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with different educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles, and engage the students in learning.
• Reviews, evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through a self-evaluation process of self-reflection.
• Meets or exceeds professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, requirements of business/industry, and higher education, as appropriate to the discipline(s).
• Actively participates in college meetings and/or committees, task forces, and councils.
• Participates in college-related activities such as community education, recruitment of students, student retention, and faculty selection.
• Participates in college activities for students/student organizations to aid in retention.
• Participates in community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college.
• Participates in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
• Promotes and maintains departmental affiliation agreements and other partnerships with other institutions.

Preferred Experience

• At least one (1) year of teaching experience in a college environment.
• Experience with a wide-variety of pedagogical methodologies and assessment strategies.

Note: Faculty are assigned to teach courses using various delivery methods based on the teaching area and the needs of students and the College, which may require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location.

Salary Grade: MAST
