Michigan State University is seeking a Senior Researcher to lead a team in evaluating agricultural innovations in Mali. This role involves extensive research, stakeholder engagement, and project administration. The position is remote-friendly, allowing for flexible work arrangements.
Position Summary
Innovations that raise productivity and/or increase the resilience of food systems are an essential component of development pathways for most countries. Over a two-year period, the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA) has funded a retrospective scoping review on the adoption and impact of agricultural innovations in Mali from 2000 to 2025. The senior researcher and PI hired for this position will lead a team of seven researchers based in the US, including a co-PI at MSU, 2 consultants at Tufts University, and 3 consultants based at a university and research institution in Bamako, Mali. The team will identify and characterize candidate innovations across the specialized domains of crop and animal agriculture and the management of natural resources; assemble evidence of impact at scale for each innovation; conduct international stakeholder interviews to triangulate evidence of impact; and apply qualitative and quantitative tools to analyze evidence collected in international and local stakeholder interviews. After implementing stakeholder fora to assess and review findings, the team will co-author, finalize and submit a narrative report, stocktable and data landscape to support future research on CGIAR impacts in Mali. MSU PIs will lead the communications strategy and have overall responsibility for the online information searches, compilations, digital document storage, and quantitative analysis, as well as project administration.
