Job summary

Muskegon Community College seeks qualified candidates for adjunct instructors to teach in various departments. The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants interested in future teaching opportunities as part-time instructors. Pools are open for applications, but there may be no immediate openings in a division.

If needs arise, chairs will review approved applicants for potential interviews. Applicants should submit unofficial transcripts with their application.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in discipline or 18 credits in the specific discipline.
  • Prefer teaching experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations across ages, nationalities and cultures.
  • Experience with instructional technology preferred.

Job Description

Muskegon Community College, an associate degree-grantinginstitution of higher education, is a center for lifelong learningwhich provides a person the opportunity to attain their educationalgoals by offering programs that respond to individual, community,and global needs. We are seeking qualified candidates for AdjunctInstructors.

The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants who are interestedin teaching in the future as an (part-time) adjunct instructor forone of our departments. The Instructor Pools are always open forapplications. However, this does not mean that we have animmediate opening in the division. The Adjunct Instructor Poolsfunction as a way for department chairs to view applicant materialsin advance of a need, and determine if the applicant will beapproved or not approved to be added to their pool of eligibleapplicants. Should a part-time instructional need arise in a givendepartment, the department chair will look first at the approvedapplicants to see if anyone matches our needs, in which case theymay make contact to schedule an interview.

RequiredSkills

Master's Degree in discipline or 18 credits in the specificdiscipline. Prefer teaching experience at the college level.Demonstrated ability to work with various populations representinga wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities and cultures.Experience with instructional technology preferred.

Responsible for instruction and facilitating student learning;committed to student recruitment, retention and success; assessmentof learning, development of curriculum and use of instructionaldelivery modes utilizing both traditional and non-traditionalmethodology.

  1. Teach assigned course which may include day, night, and onlinecourses, as well as at the main campus and extension centers.Classes are to meet on time for the full allotted time.
  2. Establish and promote an effective learning environment thatmaximize documented student learning.
  3. Prepare, submit and maintain reports related to studentlearning.
  4. Grading assignments in a meaningful way to promote continuedstudent growth, returning graded assignments to students in atimely manner, and assigning final grades for all students, meetingor beating all institutional deadlines for completion.
  5. Provide educational assistance to students during regularlyscheduled and posted times (i.e., office hours) or byappointment.
  6. Encourage student opinion survey completion for each class andthen reviewed after summary information available to assist withincreasing student success.
  7. Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise,including compliance training or hour.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Normal Office environment with little, if, any, discomfort due toheat, dust, noise and the like. Ability to travel to all campuslocations required.
