Job summary

Thomas Jefferson University is seeking a Professional Tutor to provide individualized academic support across all programs and subject areas. Tutors meet with students one-on-one, in person or remotely, delivering structured guidance to promote success.

This role supports undergraduate and graduate coursework, including capstone-level learning. Responsibilities include tutoring, providing feedback, maintaining session records, and aligning with tutoring standards to ensure quality service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree or graduate student preferred.
• Some experience tutoring or working one-on-one with students on writing, preferably in a university writing center or learning center
• Excellent communication, both oral and written

Job Description

Essential Functions

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Provides individualized tutoring to students across Jefferson programs and subject areas, supporting undergraduate and graduate-level coursework, including advanced and capstone-level learning.
• Assists students with understanding course material, developing academic skills, and applying concepts through guided practice and problem-solving strategies.
• Delivers timely, constructive verbal and written feedback to support student learning and academic progress.
• Maintains accurate scheduling, session documentation, and records of tutoring interactions in accordance with program guidelines.
• Completes required training and collaborates with academic support leadership to ensure consistent service quality and alignment with tutoring standards.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required)

Calendar/scheduling; expertise/experience with tutoring and writing support/instruction, preferably in a university or writing center setting; experience with best practices for writing support; excellent communication, both oral and written

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree or graduate student preferred
