Job description

Position Purpose:

The Professional Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) Tutor supportslearning by assisting with academic strategies to support students’academic success. As students strive to reach their academic goals,the main responsibility of a tutor is to help the student inbecoming a more independent, engaged, and confident learner.A&P tutors provide individual and group tutoring to studentsacross a broad range of health science courses. Tutors will alsoconduct review sessions (recitations) for A&P I and II. Tutorsmeet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class,explain processes, provide tools to enhance their application andanalyzation of course content. This is a 9-month position workingapproximately 10-19 hours per week. Applicants will be part of apool of professional tutors from which the Academic Support Centerwill fill the needed Professional Tutor positions. Applicants areencouraged to refresh their applications after 90 days with aresume that includes new education or work experience.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provide support through scheduled appointments, recitations,and drop-in sessions.
• Utilize effective tutoring and listening strategies to empowerstudent tutees to determine content and pace of tutoring.
• Explore students’ individual learning preferences and work todevelop active learning and study strategies appropriate for theirneeds and optimize their learning.
• Follow the tutor cycle, utilize open-ended questions and goalsetting to diagnose student tutoring/skill development needs andmonitor progress.
• Assist with outreach and follow-up with students who receiveAcademic Alerts to provide additional academic support.
• Communicate with faculty to ensure continuity for studentsrelated to specific course expectations and discussions duringtutoring sessions.
• Collaborate with other faculty/staff to design and deliverrecitations, exam reviews, and specialized group tutoring.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverseacademic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds ofstudents.
• Ability to effectively communicate information in a clear andunderstandable manner verbally and in writing to students anddecipher comprehension during tutoring sessions.
• Participate in professional development activities to improvetutorial skills.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

• Master's degree or higher in health sciences or otherhealth-science based degrees (e.g. chiropractor, nursing)required.

Experience:

• Experience in higher education strongly preferred.
