Full-Time Professional Staff Nurse - Vascular Access Unit
UPMC Hamot, a Magnet-certified hospital, is excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a Full-Time Professional Staff Nurse to join our Vascular Access department. We are seeking compassionate and dedicated nurses who are eager to make a meaningful impact on patient care in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
This position offers a rotating day/evening schedule with shifts available seven days a week, and the flexibility to choose between 8- or 12-hour shifts.

Position Overview:
As a Professional Staff Nurse in the Vascular Access unit, you will play a key role in providing high-quality nursing care. You’ll work both independently and collaboratively, managing and delivering care to a group of patients, using sound judgment and clear communication to achieve the best possible outcomes.
This role involves leadership, collaboration, and supervision. You will work closely with physicians, healthcare professionals, patients, and families to ensure the highest standard of care and patient safety.

The final job title and rate of pay will be based on your qualifications and preferences. Any required certifications will be provided with a timeframe to obtain. The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $33.75.
Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

- Apply evidence-based practices to enhance clinical care and influence patient care plans.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans that involve patients as partners in their care.
- Utilize critical thinking to address clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues.
- Communicate effectively with the care team to promote patient safety and high-quality care.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation to enhance communication among caregivers.
- Foster collaborative relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to create a compassionate, healing environment.
- Demonstrate accountability for personal and professional development, including participating in shared governance and improving care practices.
- Provide education to patients and families to guide them through their care journey and transition to other levels of care.
- Mentor and support the development of students, new staff, and colleagues.

Qualifications:
- Education: ASN or BSN required.
- Experience: Zero to two years of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania or in a state covered by the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC).
- Certifications: CPR (required within 30 days of hire), ACLS (within one year of hire), NIH Stroke Scale certification (within six months of hire). UPMC-approved national certification is preferred.
- Skills: Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with all members of the healthcare team, including physicians, patients, and families. Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
- Visual and manual dexterity required.
Flexible Shift Options: UPMC offers a variety of flexible work options, including rotating shifts, weekend shifts, and night shifts with premium pay differentials. To qualify for certain shifts, applicants must have at least 6 months of nursing experience and may need to complete an orientation during regular business hours.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP) in the state of Pennsylvania or through the NLC.
- ACLS and BLS certifications are required within specified timeframes of hire.
- Graduate nurses must complete the licensure examination within six months of hire or one year of graduation, whichever comes first.
