Responsibilities
- Perform prescribed, routine maintenance on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
- Possess sufficient system knowledge to match customer needs with sales opportunities and to complete rapid, accurate diagnoses.
- Manage truck inventory responsibly, including ordering, receiving, billing, and maintaining parts with minimal waste. Maintain a clean vehicle, perform required maintenance timely, and manage the vehicle within company guidelines.
- Complete necessary documentation and electronic communication thoroughly, accurately, and professionally, utilizing hand-held devices for paperwork and invoicing.
- Use mirrors, flashlights, and other tools to check joints, install PVC drain pipes, set and trim cases, install and adjust glass doors and frames, use temperature sensors, braze and solder, and determine coil layout in complex boxes.
- Identify pipe sizes and fittings visually, perform refrigerant and oil conversions, test oils, and weld various metals and joints accurately.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and properly size thermostatic expansion valves.
- Understand pressure regulators, refrigerant flow controls, TEV troubleshooting and replacement, and interpret complex schematic diagrams.
- Demonstrate knowledge of low/high pressure oil systems, controls, startup procedures, EMS controls, CO2 refrigeration, retail startup, airflow testing, VFDs, defrost types, recovery setup, torch setup, compressor parameters, system layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- Operate gauges, scales, recovery equipment, ECM, motors, and manage oil levels and pressures.
- Detect and repair leaks, solder copper-to-brass and copper-to-steel joints, diagnose and replace compressors, troubleshoot complex service calls, and manage oil systems.
- Mentor other technicians and lead HVAC/R preventive maintenance programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- HVAC-R Technical School Degree preferred.
Experience:
- External candidates: 7 years in the field or 5 years with technical certification.
- Internal candidates: 3 years as a certified technician with completed OJT and skills assessment.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to walk, crouch, climb, work at heights, and lift objects up to 50 pounds.
- Excellent communication skills, detail-oriented, motivated.
- Strong mechanical skills and familiarity with maintenance tools.
- Availability to work nights and weekends.
- Knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC preferred.
- Leadership skills and business acumen.
- EPA 608 Universal Certification.
- Good decision-making and documentation skills.
