Job description

Join to apply for the Professional School Counselor- 11 Month role at Memphis-Shelby County Schools.

Assist in planning, implementing, and assessing the school’s guidance program designed to increase the academic, social, emotional, and environmental strengths of students. The position involves both professional and administrative tasks, working independently and reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Implementing a comprehensive guidance and counseling program based on state and District standards; collaborating with staff and community resources.
  2. Counseling students individually and in groups to develop strategies for academic and personal goals.
  3. Facilitating crisis intervention and peer mediation as needed.
  4. Discovering and developing students’ abilities and resolving educational handicaps.
  5. Administering assessments and providing referrals to services.
  6. Maintaining confidential student records and preparing reports.
  7. Participating in meetings, conferences with parents, and coordinating student registration and scheduling.
  8. Analyzing data to determine counseling needs and monitoring student behavior and progress.
  9. Responding to inquiries, performing administrative tasks, and attending training sessions.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in school counseling from an accredited institution.
  • One year of related experience, totaling seven years of education and experience.
  • State certification in Guidance and Counseling.
