The Groomer is a commission-based position within the Resort and reports directly to the General Manager. A successful candidate will embrace this culture, be a team player, self-motivated, receptive to direction, possess excellent communication skills, and have great attention to detail. Experience in grooming or bathing all breeds of dogs and cats is essential. Primary responsibilities include providing professional-quality grooming that meets or exceeds client requests while ensuring the pet’s physical and emotional health.

A Day In The Life

This role is vital for our pets and their owners. You’ll help keep pets healthy and happy through grooming, bathing, and sometimes handling emergency situations like accidents. You will interact with pets and their owners, document observations, and sometimes identify health concerns. Expect to get covered in fur, receive kisses, and sometimes clean up messes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive grooming experience with compassion and safety.
  • Groom or bathe pets according to owner specifications, ensuring timely completion.
  • Schedule appointments, set up new clients, and discuss grooming needs and health with clients.
  • Communicate results and recommend additional services.
  • Respond promptly to calls and emails, reschedule as needed, and resolve customer issues.
  • Maintain grooming tools and equipment, and notify management of supplies needed.
  • Keep the workspace clean and sanitized, including hair, bathing areas, and drying rooms.
  • Monitor pet health during grooming, report concerns, and ensure pets have water and bathroom breaks.
  • Follow safety procedures, especially with aggressive or escape-prone animals.
  • Adhere to pricing policies and document pets properly with grooming cards or name tags.
  • Coordinate with other departments as necessary.

  • Passion for animals and animal care, especially dogs and cats, with a willingness to learn behavior cues.
  • Gentle handling and a focus on safety; aggressive or forceful handling is not tolerated.
  • Customer service skills, including managing difficult situations and building trust.
  • Clear communication with clients, both written and oral.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible with schedules, including holidays and weekends.
  • Attention to detail, teamwork, and willingness to assist others.
  • Comfort working in various environments and with bodily fluids.

Qualifications For This Position

Education: Professional Grooming Certifications preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • Two to four years of professional grooming preferred.
  • Knowledge of breed standards and cuts.
  • Proficiency in scissoring techniques.
