Scion Staffing, Inc. seeks a Professional Liability Defense Attorney to join our Wilmington, NC office. You will own cases from intake to resolution, draft pleadings and motions, take depositions, and argue in court while working with carriers and clients in a collaborative, growth-minded firm.

Responsibilities

• Manage an active professional liability defense caseload from intake through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and legal research for complex state and federal matters.
• Propound, respond to, and evaluate written discovery.
• Take and defend depositions, including preparing clients and experts.
• Argue motions in state and federal court.
• Advise clients and carriers through case summaries and strategy updates.
• Negotiate with opposing counsel on discovery, settlement and pre-trial issues.
• Prepare for and attend mediations and review settlement documents.
• Lead trial preparation, including witnesses, exhibits, motions in limine, jury selection, openings, closings and examinations.
• Present to prospective clients individually and in groups.

If You Have:

• 3–7 years of civil defense litigation experience
• professional liability or insurance defense experience preferred
• Hands‑on experience with pleadings, discovery, motions, depositions and advocacy in North Carolina Superior Court
• The ability to manage a varied caseload on your own
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills
• Excellent organization and attention to detail
• A self‑starting, entrepreneurial approach and a commitment to client service and teamwork
• Skilled with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Westlaw or Lexis, billing software and generative AI tools
• An active North Carolina law license in good standing

You Will Be:
