Qualifications

• A valid Professional Land Surveyor License from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.
• One year (1) of experience as a licensed professional land surveyor.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise all survey activities from project initiation through final Right-of-Way monumentation.
• Coordinate with Resident Engineers, ROW Manager, Roadway Designers and ROW Agents to establish ROW limits and parcel requirements.
• Negotiate task orders for required services, administer task orders and manage consultant activities to ensure timely completion.
• Supervise and manage progress of all Survey Team projects and ensure coordination with region personnel on design and ROW issues.
• Oversee all surveying and project preparation activities for Region 4 Local Agency Projects.
• Provide QC to ensure surveys and ROW Project Control Diagrams comply with statutes and guidelines.
• Develop and provide KMZ files for linework and exhibits for stakeholders.
• Attend ROW team meetings and communicate survey information to ROW personnel.
• Mentor and train employees; evaluate performance and address personnel issues.
• Prepare trial exhibits with assigned attorneys for legal proceedings.

This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

About the Work Unit

The Region 4 Survey Operations Unit located in Greeley defines, acquires, and manages real property for the development and maintenance of the State transportation system in Region 4, and to provide guidance, support, and oversight of local agency transportation projects.

About the Position

The Professional Land Surveyor II is an advanced professional who oversees all aspects of land survey utilized in project design and development and completion of Right-of-Way plans and legal descriptions created by the unit or consultants, and ensures these plans and descriptions comply with CDOT standards, which include the Colorado Revised Statutes for Land Surveys and Plats.

This position will plan and supervise all survey activities with the region from project initiation (scoping) and control survey through final Right-of-Way monumentation which will include coordinating, managing, and scheduling preliminary design surveys, construction surveys, control surveys, Global Positioning System (GPS) or satellite surveying.

Your duties and responsibilities

will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan and conduct surveys to densify the State's High Accuracy Reference Network (HARN) for inclustion into the National geodetic network which will be used as a basis for the State's GIS.
• Coordinate with Resident Engineers, the ROW Manager, Roadway Designers, Professional Land Surveyors, specialist units and ROW Agents to establish ROW limits and parcel requirements.
• Negotiate task orders for required services, administer task orders and manage consultant activities to ensure timely and effective completion of required tasks within the established consultant budget.
• Supervise and manage progress of all the Survey Team's project activities, including ensuring that proper coordination and interface with region personnel has addressed critical engineering design and ROW issues.
• Oversee all surveying and project preparation activities for all Region 4 Local Agency Projects.
• Provide guidance and quality control to ensure that applicable projects by local public agencies (LPAs) perform all surveys and prepare all ROW Project Control Diagrams in compliance with state and federal statutes, regulations and guidelines.
• Perform and complete other projects as assigned or approved by the Region 4 ROW Manager.
• Provide additional Keyhole Markup Language Zipped (KMZ) files for linework with survey data to ROW team to help produce exhibits to provide to internal stakeholders or landowners as needed.
• Regularly attend and participate in ROW team and supervisor meetings to provide information regarding survey to other ROW personnel as needed.
• Certify various survey records including but not limited to control survey diagrams, survey reports, land corner monumentation records and survey tabulation sheets.
• Administer the performance program for all employees to include regular performance feedback.
• Coach, mentor and train employees; document and evaluate performance and set an appropriate example.
• Resolve personnel or project problems using insight and experience; address personnel issues and mediates conflicts.
• Implement policies and procedures in a fair and consistent way; ensures policies, procedures and directives are followed; set clear expectations and holds employees accountable.
• Work with assigned attorneys and other ROW Unit staff to prepare trial exhibits for legal proceedings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

• Your schedule will primarily be 7:30 am – 4:30 pm work hours, Monday-Friday, with the opportunity for a flexible schedule
• Opportunity to occasionally work from home after training is completed
• Approximately 30% spent in the field, 70% spent in the office
• Travel required during work hours throughout Region 4 for field work and off-site meetings.
• Occasional overnight travel at a remote location in Colorado
• Required to operate CDOT vehicles

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only:

• A valid Professional Land Surveyor License from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.

• One year (1) of experience as a licensed professional land surveyor.
