Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a billing specialist to manage insurance accounts for the health system and physician practices. You will submit claims, follow up on denials and balances, verify benefits, and communicate with insurers to secure payments.

Ideal candidates have at least one year of experience in computerized medical billing, strong written and oral communication, and familiarity with medical terminology. A high school diploma or GED is required.

This position is responsible for the billing functions for MyMichigan Health and MyMichigan Medical Group physician practices. It requires review of the general appropriateness of account balances.

Responsibilities
  • Submits new electronic and paper insurance claims. Performs follow up on outstanding insurances balances including contacting the insurance company and utilization of the internet. Makes appropriate decisions regarding the status of an account utilizing carrier specific billing knowledge.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
  • Reviews outstanding physician insurance claims on a timely basis.
  • Processes additional billings as required to obtain maximum payment on account.
  • Responds to correspondence appropriate to area of responsibility.
  • Communicates effectively with other department staff to resolve insurance billing issues.
  • Maintains accuracy of insurance and patient account status.
  • Understands payer billing requirements.
  • Resolve credit balances.
  • Performs other miscellaneous related duties.
Certifications and Licensures

Required Education
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • High school diploma. Experience in medical billing, medical office setting and medical terminology perferred. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Software preferred.

  • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
