Job Overview:

The primary duties of the Professional Academic Advisor (PAA) position involve proactively advising traditional undergraduate students to engage effectively with their academic and extracurricular activities, understand and negotiate career pathways, and increase their satisfaction, academic stability, and retention and degree completion rates.

As a member of the Holistic Advising team, the PAA will collaborate with academic departments, other team members, and campus divisions to provide outreach, support, and advising aimed at student well-being and success. The role also includes teaching sections of the College Success Seminar and referring students to resources like tutoring and counseling.

Essential Functions:
  • Meet regularly with assigned students to develop and monitor educational plans and success goals, including academic planning and registration.
  • Provide students with information regarding academic and personal support resources.
  • Collaborate with faculty mentors of assigned students.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and administrative offices such as business, registrar, and financial aid.
  • Participate in campus events like New Student Orientation, Welcome Weekend, Open Houses, and Admitted Student Days.
  • Engage in the College's student success initiatives and the First Year Experience Learning Communities, including teaching College Success Seminar.
  • Monitor attendance, alerts, and progress reports.
  • Serve on the Student Support Team and attend professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate events related to student holds.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in Navigate leadership and meet with at-risk students to develop success plans.
  • Monitor students with multiple alerts and work with the Registrar’s Office on attendance and withdrawal issues.
  • Stay updated on advising best practices and conduct workshops for faculty advisors.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion; strong organizational and collaborative skills; commitment to undergraduate education and student success.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, email, internet, and quick learner of new applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to provide effective information and responses.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret instructions and work independently or in teams.
Work Schedule & Benefits:
