Role Overview

The Provider Practice Coding Consultant is crucial for improving medical coding quality. Responsibilities include providing consulting and educational support to healthcare professionals, collaborating with clients and healthcare leaders, and ensuring compliance and service optimization in hospital and care settings.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign accurate codes (CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10 procedures, HCPCS).
• Conduct data quality reviews for compliance with coding and documentation guidelines.
• Communicate professionally with team members, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Identify documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues.
• Use VPN access to complete tasks productively and flexibly.
• Uphold policies, promote compliance, and operational efficiency.
• Maintain professional credentials through continuing education.
• Attend mandatory training and educational meetings.
• Adhere to AHIMA's code of ethics and professional standards.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of coding experience.
• AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, CRC) certification.
• Strong communication skills, remote work proficiency, and excellent time management.
• Experience with encoding and abstracting software.
• Pass annual HIPAA and other required testing.
