Role Overview: Provider Practice Coding Consultant

This role offers an opportunity to impact medical coding significantly by providing consulting and educational support to healthcare professionals. You will collaborate with clients and healthcare leaders to improve coding practices, ensure compliance, and optimize outcomes across various care settings.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign accurate codes (CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10 procedures, HCPCS).
• Conduct data quality reviews to ensure compliance with coding guidelines.
• Communicate professionally with team members, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Identify documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues.
• Utilize VPN access for remote task completion.
• Uphold Datavant and HIM Division policies, fostering a culture of compliance and efficiency.
• Maintain professional credentials through continuing education and mandatory training.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of coding experience.
• AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, CRC) certification.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work remotely with excellent time management.
• Experience with coding software and abstracting tools.
• Ability to pass annual HIPAA and other compliance tests.
