Job Description
The Production Trainer is responsible for assisting with in‑class and on‑the‑job training to production employees, focusing on the safe and efficient operation of machinery, tools, and manufacturing processes. This role involves direct, hands‑on instruction in a TWI (Training Within Industry) setting to ensure team members can perform their tasks with precision, meet quality and production standards, and adhere to safety protocols. The Production Trainer will conduct training of newly hired employees and retraining employees according to process standards. This position spends time on the manufacturing floor and requires standing for long periods to train, observe, and participate on the production line processes. You will also help to create and maintain training documents and records, run reports, and sometimes attend meetings and audits to give updates or information related to training. This role answers directly to the Operations Training Supervisor.
Job Duties
- Train team members on standards set for their area, so staff can perform their tasks with precision, meet quality standards, and adhere to safety protocols.
- Help conduct and oversee the training of newly hired employees.
- Update and retrain employees requiring additional training by documenting Skills Matrices and databases.
- Work with automation, engineers, supervisors, etc. to maintain current knowledge on lines.
- Work closely with training supervisor and other partners to develop content for existing and new programs that are practical and interactive.
- Help maintain the training Matrix database.
- Research and resolve issues related to training techniques.
- Help drive training initiatives independently or within a team environment.
- Analyze processes and data to determine training needs and develop materials.
- Provide training reports and track the progress of training or related projects.
- Adhere to the Train the Trainer program and follow TWI (Training Within Industry) methodology.
- Foster a culture of Continuous Improvement.
- Develop and monitor trainees during practical exercises, offering immediate feedback to correct techniques and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Collaborate with production supervisors to identify skill gaps and tailor training to address operational needs.
- Maintain training equipment and ensure it's in safe working condition for instructional use.
Qualifications
- Understanding of the manufacturing environment and running lines.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
- Ability to train and develop team members to improve performance and process times through classroom and hands‑on instruction.
- Strong communication, public speaking, and organization skills.
- Strategic, analytical, and creative thinker, ability to generate new ideas and approaches to problems.
- Strong work ethic.
- Learn and gather information at a fast pace.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of LMS and training systems.
- Experience in the training field.
- Ability to give and receive constructive criticism related to the knowledge of machinery and work practices.
- Ability to collect data for daily reporting to upper‑level management.
