Overview
EH&S Lab Services (Astoria ChemLab) provides critical sampling and analytical services in support of all Company commodities and businesses throughout the ConEdison service territory. The Production Technician will collaborate closely with customers and staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality, defensible, and repeatable results in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities- Under general supervision, participate in various aspects of sample collection and analysis, including field-based testing and analyses.
- Visit various field locations to collect samples, install instruments, train personnel, and inspect equipment and structures.
- Perform laboratory functions such as receiving, preparation, and analysis. May also serve as a driver, navigator, or instrument operator for mobile locating of trouble conditions across the service territory.
- Work safely, communicate effectively with team members, and meticulously document findings and observations.
- Conduct environmental sampling and chemical analyses.
- Respond to field or lab emergencies during off-shifts and weekends.
- Work longer than 8 hours per shift as needed.
- Create, maintain, and communicate records and reports.
- Understand, follow, create, and update policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to work assignments.
- Communicate with customers and team members effectively.
- Maintain good housekeeping and cleanliness practices.
- Perform other related tasks necessary for laboratory operations.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience- High School Diploma/GED with four (4) years of relevant experience in laboratory analyses or environmental field services.
- Associate's Degree with two (2) years of relevant experience in laboratory analyses or environmental field services.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
Preferred Education/Experience- Associate's Degree in science or engineering and two (2) years of relevant experience in laboratory analyses or environmental field services.
Relevant Work Experience- Experience performing biology or chemistry sample analyses in a laboratory setting.
- Experience conducting environmental field sampling across various matrices.
Skills and Abilities- Strong analytical skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to multiple assignments.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Customer service oriented.
Licenses and Certifications- Driver's License required.
Physical Demands- Respond to system emergencies.
- Work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Perform extended driving and manual labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Carry tools/materials, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and at heights.
- Work in adverse conditions such as noise, confined spaces, and high elevations.
- Operate equipment and wear PPE, including respirators.
- Travel to various locations as needed, including storm restoration efforts.
Additional Physical Demands- Respond to emergency situations as part of System Emergency Assignments.
