Overview
EH&S Lab Services (Astoria ChemLab) provides critical sampling and analytical services supporting all Company commodities and businesses throughout the Con Edison service territory. The Production Technician will collaborate with customers and staff to ensure high-quality, defensible, and repeatable results in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Participate in sample collection and analysis, including field testing and analyses, under general supervision.
- Visit field locations to collect samples, install instruments, train personnel, and inspect equipment and structures.
- Perform laboratory functions such as receiving, preparation, and analysis; may also operate as a driver, navigator, or instrument operator in mobile locating tasks.
- Work safely, communicate effectively, and meticulously document findings and observations.
- Conduct environmental sampling and chemical analyses.
- Respond to field or lab emergencies during off-shifts and weekends.
- Work overtime as needed, exceeding 8 hours per shift.
- Create and maintain records, prepare reports, and follow relevant policies and procedures.
- Communicate with customers and team members.
- Maintain good housekeeping and cleanliness practices.
- Perform other related tasks related to laboratory operations.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant experience in laboratory analyses or environmental field services, OR
- Associate's Degree with 2 years of relevant experience, OR
- Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Associate's Degree in science or engineering with 2 years of relevant experience.
Relevant Work Experience
- Experience in biology or chemistry sample analyses within a laboratory.
- Experience in environmental field sampling across various materials and matrices.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical skills, organized, detail-oriented, and flexible.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Customer service orientation.
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License required.
Physical Demands
- Respond to emergencies, work in all weather conditions, perform manual labor, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and handle heavy equipment.
- Work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and travel as needed.
Additional Physical Demands
- Respond to company emergencies as part of system emergency assignments.
