The Peace Center in Greenville, SC, seeks a Production Technician to manage lighting, audio, and rigging for shows and events. This hands-on role will also act as the stage manager and handle event management duties for assigned productions.

Responsibilities include advancing events with clients and staff, coordinating crews, ensuring safety and code compliance, and troubleshooting technical issues as they arise. Requires strong stagecraft skills and forklift ability.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in general stagecraft techniques.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience running consoles.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and methods of stage management.

  • Prepare and review show riders, crew calls, invoices, event reports, stage diagrams, lighting plots and various other reports and correspondence.
  • Advance events, meet with clients, technical staff, and Peace Center personnel to discuss production needs and schedule crew calls.
  • Identify any technical problems, design issues or equipment limitations and notify appropriate client and management staff.
  • Maintain advance and show records.
  • Supervise staff and local labor during scheduled calls to ensure proper use of house equipment and efficient use of labor.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all performance and support areas ensuring that all building, electrical, and fire codes are adhered to, and Peace Center safety procedures and OSHA regulations are followed.
  • Operate sound board, hang/focus/operate lighting console, serve as show carpenter, fly man, rigger, Production Coordinator or Stage Manager as needed.

Job description

The Peace Center is a major, nonprofit performing arts center serving a growing and sophisticated audience in Greenville, South Carolina. It is the dominant performing arts center in the state and region. Built on a six-acre campus with an aesthetic mix of new architecture and historic buildings, the campus is at the hub of Greenville's nationally recognized downtown.

The Peace Center venues include the 2,115-seat Peace Concert Hall, the 400-seat Gunter Theatre, the 1,400-capacity outdoor Peace Pavilion, Genevieve's Lounge, and the Huguenot Mill which includes two event spaces: the Ramsaur Studio and the Huguenot Loft, the 250-seat Mockingbird (a listening room), and the 1150 capacity Coach Factory (flat floor club).

POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Technician is a hands-on position responsible for lighting, audio, and rigging related to shows and events at the Peace Center and will act as the stage manager and perform event management related duties for assigned shows.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Include, but are not limited to)
  • Prepare and review show riders, crew calls, invoices, event reports, stage diagrams, lighting plots and various other reports and correspondence.
  • As assigned, advance events, meet with clients, technical staff, and Peace Center personnel to discuss production needs and schedule crew calls.

  • As needed and assigned to meet show requirements:
    • Operate sound board.
    • Hang, focus, and operate lighting console.
    • Serve as show carpenter, fly man, and rigger.
    • Serve as Production Coordinator or Stage Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary to the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in general stagecraft techniques.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience running consoles.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and methods of stage management.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of production equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of audio and lighting systems.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and repair of production equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of stage tools & materials.
  • Proficiency in operating theatre systems and communications for cue calls.
  • Understanding of generally acceptable theater practices.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, certification a plus.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work well with others.

  • Able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Critical thinking and good judgement
  • Work well under pressure both independently and as a team.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 35-50 lbs. repeatedly, alone or with assistance.
  • Ability to crouch, twist, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand, and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, work at heights above the floor.
