Job summary

Alamo Group, through its Alamo Industrial division, seeks a welding supervisor to lead production welding teams on mowers and related equipment. You will analyze work orders, coordinate schedules, and ensure on-time production while upholding safety standards.

The role requires MIG welding expertise, blueprint reading, strong leadership, and the ability to train staff. This on-site position may involve day/night shifts and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
• AWS certification a plus.
• 3-5 years supervisory experience directing others.

Responsibilities

• Determine staffing levels and manpower schedules based on workloads and product knowledge.
• Requisition supplies and maintain inventory accuracy; ensure material transactions are complete.
• Prioritize and assign work orders to meet production deadlines; collaborate with Planning and Control.
• May train workers in operation of equipment and welding techniques.
• Inspect work to maintain standards; suggest improvements to methods and equipment to raise quality and efficiency.
• Maintain time and production records; monitor departmental performance and workloads.
• Enforce safety rules and keep the department and area clean and orderly.
• May conduct employee meetings and provide training to improve performance.

Position Summary:

Under minimal supervision, supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in welding and cutting of materials and products. Applies knowledge of welding and cutting techniques, materials, equipment and fabrication requirements. Analyzes work orders, blueprints and sequence of operations required. Organizes and maintains production schedules

Essential Functions of the Job:

• Determines staffing levels and manpower schedules based on workloads and knowledge of products and materials. Maintains operating schedule relative to production demands and deadlines.
• Requisitions supplies such as weld deposition materials, gas, fixtures, etc. Understands and supports procedures for maintaining inventory accuracy. Ensures work orders and material transactions are accurate and complete.
• Prioritizes and assigns work orders to ensure completion and timeliness of production schedules. Works closely with Production Planning and Control.
• May train workers in operation of equipment/machines and welding techniques.
• Inspects work to maintain specified standards and quality. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
• Maintains time and production records, and analyzes departmental production performance. Monitors welding processes and makes recommendations for workload.
• Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work-related problems.
• Initiates or recommends personnel action(s) such as promotions, transfers, disciplinary measures and/or terminations through appropriate channels and/or by following proper procedures. Completes and administers subordinates' performance evaluations.
• Conducts and monitors employee meetings and training programs to enhance job performance. Suggests and initiates plans to motivate workers to achieve goals. Conducts departmental employee meetings.
• Administers weld tests in recruitment process.
• Enforces safety rules and regulations. Ensures department and surrounding area(s) is clean and orderly.
• May confer with other supervisors/team leaders to coordinate activities of individual departments.
• May be required to perform other assigned duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

• Knowledge and understanding of production welding processes. Previous welding experience with increasing areas/levels of responsibility. Emphasis on mig welding.
• Must be able to read blueprints and/or shop orders.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Good human relations skills.
• Good leadership skills; able to problem solve, persuade and motivate.
• Good coordination skills, able to plan, prioritize and organize various activities.
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines/production schedules.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED certificate required. College degree or Technical School preferred.
• AWS certification a plus.
• Minimum 3-5 years previous supervisory experience directing the work of others.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines/production schedules.
• Must be physically capable of standing/working 8+ hour shift(s).
• Must be able to work days, nights, overtime and/or weekends as needed.
