AFL is seeking aManufacturing Crew Supervisorfor thePremise DepartmentinDuncan, SC. The Crew Leader position will be a member of the Cable manufacturing team responsible for supervision, training, leading, and motivating the associates that are on their team. The Crew Supervisor will be a strong advocate for safety and ensure all operators understand and abide by AFL’s safety guidelines and procedures. This position will report to the Production Department Manager – Premise. This position will also take direction and guidance from various other departments (i.e. Quality, Scheduling, etc.)

EHS:
- Act as first responder for near miss or injury events in their area.
- Initiate incident reports before the end of the shift.
- Facilitate plant evacuation in their area in the event of an emergency.
Schedule Compliance:
- Ensure all lines follow the schedule in sequence.
- Notify department manager or process engineer to resolve schedule issues in advance.
- If a deviation is required outside of 24 hours, planning must be consulted.
- Expedite critical orders that are behind due to prior compliance issues.
- Interface with Planner and Scheduler to communicate adherence misses with knowledgeable plans for recovery
Uptime:
- Ensure authorized rework is completed and facilitate movement of NCMIR materials that are necessary for upstream processes.
- Reassign operators as needed to meet the daily schedule (staffing unplanned absences, providing assistance for abnormal conditions, performing rework, etc.).
- Operate / Oversee lines as needed to support break relief, quality checks, process monitoring, etc.
- Ensure material prep work is completed in advance of next runs for each line (example: dryers filled, aramid kitted, take-up reels, have materials delivered from warehouse).
- Identify and communicate instances where there is excessive or non-scheduled consumption of line time (slow changeovers, reduced line speed, maintenance or process engineering downtime, etc.).
- Resolve administrative barriers such as Oracle transaction issues, set-up document, and routing/BoM discrepancies.
- Escalate issues that are not able to be resolved with the direct assistance of the responsible support function (IT, process engineering, maintenance, materials, or other support groups).
Operating Efficiency & Material Utilization:
- Ensure team is operating to established procedures and process requirements.
- Empowered to stop a line in the event of a quality upset.
- Facilitate teamwork to reduce setup and changeover times.
- Assign and verify that partials, shorts, and fallout (raw materials and/or sub-assemblies) are being consumed.
- Ensure materials and tooling are pre-staged by operator for the next run.
- Identify and support problem solving when there is excessive consumption of materials (problems with centering, material processing, etc.).
- Identify chronic issues that require second level support impacting efficiency and material utilization (over/understated planning assumptions, excess startup start-up allowances, etc.).
- Facilitate and improve all 5S areas utilized by Premise Operations.
General Requirements:
- Basic supervision of Crew Operators:
- Supervise, monitor, and mentor their crew of machine operators to meet safety, quality, productivity, and delivery goals.
- Consistently apply policies, rules, and the discipline process while facilitating teamwork between and within crews
- Annual Performance evaluations of crew members
- Conduct shift debrief with off-going/oncoming Crew Supervisor.
- Execute on other assignments from Management
- Strong analytical thinking and verbal communication skills
- Will rotate shifts with crew as applicable
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent manufacturing work experience.
- At least 2 years of supervisory manufacturing experience.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Strong math skills; ability to analyze problems and justify decisions.
- Able to support weekend and night shift operations.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience supervising in a lean manufacturing environment.
- Specific Training of basic supervisory skills such as Leadership, Motivation, Conflict Resolution, Time Management, and EEOC compliance is preferred.
- Able to execute Oracle WIP transactions and solve basic issues encountered in production.
- Experienced user of MS Outlook and Office (Excel and Word). Able to create well formatted documents in Excel and Word.
